So in early March I placed an order for a Dell e1705. A very good machine I thought; 1.6 Ghz Duo Core, 1 Gig Ram, GeForce 7800 Go, 60 Gig 5400 rpm, 17" WXGA matte screen. All for about $1500 after discounts and rebates. I felt I was getting a pretty good deal.

Very early after ordering however my order got delayed. And delayed again. And again! I was getting very frustrated as my order now had a ship date of April 28th after waiting nearly a month already!

Today I get a call from my Dell rep. He informs me that due to technical difficulties my order would be delayed till late May if I kept that configuration. However, to make up for the inconvienience they were willing to offer me $850 off a Dell XPS M170! So now, my order, which will ship next week I'm told, is as follows...

    Pentium M 2.0ghz 2mb cache, 1 gig DDR2, GeForce 7800 GTX, 60 Gig 7200 rpm HD, 17" WUXGA glossy screen.

    cost - $1400 after rebates

    :) :) :) :) :)

But now people will make fun of you hardcore for having an XPS. My friend has one, and we won't let him live it down.

Just be ready to uninstall a ton of stuff. Someone I know got one recently, they load that laptop down with a bunch of **** which makes it less of a gaming laptop than it should be. I haven't been able to steal his laptop to check if they underclock it like they do Inspiron (doubt it, but still...).

I'd recommend doing a format and re-install before doing serious gaming.

Whoa, I'm not a fan of Dell, but for that price, ****~!!!

Great deal~! I guess all your troubles were worth it.

Now everyone looking at Dell laptops are probably hoping for the same delays. HAHAHA.

They can make fun of me all they want. Won't bother me one bit :)

Good luck with it Blues! I was told it was a technical issue with the GeForce 7800 Go and the e1705, so if you got that upgrade you may also be in luck.

And yeah Vahkris, i have every intention of wiping the thing clean as soon as I get it! Shame you can't ask them to give it you clean :-(

Congrats on the deal from Dell. I would gladly take the M170 instade of the 9400 even though I think it is ugly. :) But it is a better gaming machine. :)

Yeah i like the sleek look of the e1705/9400 much better than the XPS. But I'll get over it :p

Wow nice deal indeed. i did not know that Dell had this kind of customer service in them. Dell screwed me in the past but it's good to hear that some people are getting good customer service from them
