I have 2 TVs both 1080p one is 55 the other 60. I never gamed on consoles much as an adult, mainly PCs. I recently bought a xbox360 for 90 bucks for GTA v and what I'm noticing is even though its only 720p my 1080p PC games look identical when sitting on my couch 8 feet back. Now don't most people sit on their couches with a TV and sit at a distance from it? If visually they look the same why are there no reccomendations to buy a TV console and sit back more than 6 feet in these forums? People reccomend desktops in a laptop forum but no one reccomends consoles. Why? s? Are you nerdy enough to be at war with consoles, and why is it no one seems to this think logically here they buy the greatest to play 1 or 2 games ultra settings. Reasoning is always a good thing however if you kids are the future then the human race will be extinct in a few .

not sure if trolling or serious....heck, i'm not even sure what your question is. But it's a slow day here so why not, I'll bite.

    1) Sitting 8 feet back from a TV versus 1-2 feet back from a monitor is of course going to produce the results you attempted to describe. Try playing 720p content on the laptop screen, or sitting closer to the tv with the same 720p content and you see the difference (along with pixelation and blurriness)

    2) TV's have a much slower response rate than monitors, measured in milliseconds. You'll see monitors with 1ms response rates (5ms or less is ideal). The best response rate you'll see in TV's is around 17ms. Here's a recent review
Game mode on: CNET tests TVs for input lag | TV and Home Theater - CNET Reviews

    3) Not everyone has the space for a 60 inch tv or to sit 6 feet away from it.

    4) You will find recommendations for buying a console on here. If you have no technical know-how, only want a machine for games/media consumption, have no desire to play any modded versions of a game, don't mind paying $60 for a retail game or dealing with Gamestop, and you feel comfortable with having the exact same hardware for a 5-8 year generational cycle, then hey, a console is right up your alley.

    Trolling?

Get closer to the TV and watch the quality diminish severely. Consoles get away with low resolution and settings because most people don't sit close enough to notice the very low res textures and heavy aliasing. Those of us that PC game sit close enough to our monitors to notice a difference and enjoy the PC experience (mods, mouse/KB, etc...). If you prefer consoles go right ahead and continue purchasing them, but your logic is full of holes and is a poor attempt at converting the people here.

If it's any consolation, both the xboner and the ps4 run hardware in the same class as what you will find in laptop chassis with an apu+gpu amd config. And why not hook the laptop up to the tv, and plug in a random gamepad..?

The only difference between PC and consoles now is that if I want to tweak settings to something I like, instead of something "a majority" (of testers and focus group people) like, then console manufacturers won't give me that choice. Same goes for server browsers, for example. Which, according to EA and Sony in two separate instances, was "a PC thing that confused people". Also, a server browser wouldn't allow EA and Sony to use cheap server-pools in Northern China and Singapore for load-balancing, without actually advertising it to every player who bought the game. Hence, no server browser. And settings otherwise tweaked towards an average player - which is a player situated in the United States, on a broken dsl line, with an average, low response 720p/1080i tv. And anyone else will then get a sub-par experience.

We obviously have the same thing with PC games that come with a launch portal designed for the same purpose. Which we do see more and more, with the justification that "all people who like games play on console, and everyone else is an elitist PCist, and doesn't represent the masses who can't think for themselves", or something like that.

Unfortunately, people in the industry - with the large actors - actually believe that. CDProject RED, GoG.com, Steam to a certain degree - slightly less so. But it's sort of going towards that niches are being plugged and exploited for all it's worth. Specific franchises, with extremely little experimentation. And iterations of the same thing.

While anything that does something really different, without becoming a greater success - instantly - is not really attempted again.

"Do you guys KNOW what logic is?" Learning english as a second language is quite difficult.

Using google would have answered your questions with the exact same answers provided here, minus a pointless thread.

I have my pc hooked up to a 70" tv, and I am able to notice a large difference in games from their console counterparts. Mainly, you are able to change to wider viewing angles, and once you up the textures and filters, there is a difference. The graphical mods do this even more so, take Skyrim for example: stock pc version maxed out will have a difference in quality, larger viewing distance, etc. But once you add the community-made graphical mods, even looking far away from the tv the picture quality really stands out.

I mainly am a pc gamer for all the exclusives, mods, and really the freedom you get. In the end gameplay is what matters and keeps you playing, not the eye candy.

Yes reasoning is always good thing.
    1. Notebook/laptop gaming capable can be used for something else, productivity related.
    2. Gaming on-the go.
    3. Alt+Tab and clicks, gaming, productivity, entertainment :D

So when people is asking which notebook/gaming to choose, it is assumed they'll use it for something else, productivity related, entertainment at few clicks.

I'll provide my kid with notebook rather than console as a tool to educate him/her and times to have fun with their game/entertainment.

they will use notebook for their study, which no consoles can provide.

i think the answer is quite simple really. the reason why there are "no reccomendations to buy a TV console and sit back more than 6 feet in these forums," nerds have declared an eternal war against consoles, and nobody here is familiar with logic or reasoning (with the exception of the boolean and fallacious varieties)--is the same reason why GTA V played on eight-year-old hardware and viewed from your couch eight feet back from a 55"-60" TV looks "visually" the same as all PC games, and that reason, OP, is hurr durr.

Why would this thread be locked. Because you hate people that are of a lesser intelligence, and we all know people choose their intelligence and ailments. Must be interesting in your world. Only hurp durp I see Is a white crip sitting on a chair posting comments in nbr saying hurr durr.

    My point is this

For a decade I gamed 1 foot away from a monitor and thought I was getting the best experience possible now I relax on a couch and notice its more enjoyable and way cheaper.

Good For you! Happy you enjoy the experience. As to why the rest of us prefer something different, well, we tried to explain it. I think the best news, though, is that since you now exclusively console game on your TV, you don't have to torture yourself with interacting with us "white crips" on a forum dedicated to notebooks. Have fun!

Had you stated that in your initial post instead of making pointed attacks, this thread would have been less hostile towards you.

Making comments like this make you look very foolish:

Next time you start a thread try not to be so insulting.

Every hobby's got one: glass vs. plastic fermenters, DSLR versus mirrorless, console vs. PC. The stupid debates between two similar but different things that spawn opinions and discord like a pair of mating hamsters spits out squeaky little Mouseketeers.

Console vs. (gaming) PC comes down primarily to image quality, controls, and ergonomics.

Image quality is almost always better on PC's. Even when a new console comes out, it usually produces significantly inferior images compared to a decent gaming PC.

Controls would have to swing for PC's as well, since there's a wider variety of options available. However, anything that plays better or equally-well with a controller is a wash.

Ergonomics probably go in console gaming's favor, since sitting on a couch is usually more comfortable than sitting straight in front of a M+KB (which is good for your back in moderation) or hunching over a M+KB (which is not good for your back).

Other debates are game availability (depends what you like), moddability (PC), and ease-of-use (console). In the end, though, whatever you prefer is fine by me. Personally, I have my desktop hooked up to my 42 inch TV. M+KB games I play at my wheeled standing desk about 5-6 feet away from the screen, while games that work better with a controller, I play from the couch. Kind've a hybrid of all possibilities.
