ok so i got my gateway back up and running so i thought ok ill go get a few games, have some fun and test the laptops gaming capabilities.

    bought 3 games:
    *nfs undercover
    *cod4
    *crysis

and i already have oblivion game of the year edition.

So i installed them all, to start with i fired up crysis, plays pretty well on medium, but the videos during the game had like a shuddering line through them. The game playe fine however, same case on high settings.

So i run nfs undercover, all settings pretty high, left v sync off , and again played just fine, smooth game play and shuddering videos, i dont get it.

Cod4 did the same darn thing, i havent tried oblivion yet but i can guess what it will do. Cod4 wasnt that bad for it but crysis and nfs was hell

any ideas. i have the gateway fx 6860 laptop.

    all stock.

    1.8ghz processor
    320gb hard drive
    8800gts 512mb

Try setting Nvidia Control panel settings to performance or high performance, the default setting is probably quality which can lower performance.

Make sure your power profile in Control Panel is set to ''always on''. You should have no problems at all performance wise.

What resolutions are you playing at?

You might also want to update your audio drivers and install Dox optimised versions of your graphics drivers too. If you do install new graphics drivers, reboot in safe mode and use Driver sweeper to make sure they are cleanly uninstalled.

you are using customized drivers or nvidia ones?

if you are using customized, dox or otherwise, i recommend getting rid of those and using drivers straight from nvidia.

well just my .02 cents, I am using the dox drivers, which are the ones that give the best performance to my card, and this is what worked for me between quality and performance, so if you want you could give it a try and see if it works for you. in the nvidia control panel in adjust image setting with preview i selected quality, then I went to manage 3d settings and texture filter quality I changed it to high performance and turned on trilinear optimization. This combination gave the best between the two worlds.
    Good luck

crysis is too cpu heavy for a 1.8 c2d. i never really got crysis to run smooth imo.

Crysis, even with a 1.8 Ghz Core2Duo and a really good GPU should run fine on high/ medium.

I have played it before on a 2.0 Ghz Core2Duo at over 50 fps. Take away that good GPU (GTX 260M) and the frame rate would have dropped significantly.

In fact, when I ran Crysis with a higher clocked CPU which was 2.4 Ghz Core2Duo but with a less powerful GPU, I would never get such good results at all.

Check out the links in my sig, you should be getting similar frames to that, if not, keep trying drivers and check your temps while gaming.
