yes, most games allow you to program the keys to a game-controller. It is prettymuch just an extention to the keyboard, and literally, instead of F=Use, you will have L1=Use.

but...i don't think you wanna use something like that for FPS.

First, its impossible to get the percision of a mouse with a stick.

Second, your gonna need more buttons than that to use all the fuctions for most newer games.

Is it just me or does Mass Effect not support gamepads? You'd think it'd at least support the 360 controller, since it was a 360 game first and all, but no...

    Most games do support gamepads.

Same with Mass Effect. Doesn't make any sense.

I find it for myself, easier to aim with a stick as opposed to a mouse. It may just be my personal preference, since I have been gaming on consoles FAR longer than a computer.

I always wondered what it would be like in lets say CoD4, Consoles vs. PC's.

Now before I start a rant on "Omg PC's own Consoles", I am in NO way saying I could win, I am just curious on how good I would do.

Personally, I think I would do well. :D

Dude, same here. Gamed on consoles for exclusively for more than a decade. And since I was pretty much forced to game on my PC, I've had a change of heart. FPSs are infinitely easier to control with a mouse & keyboard than they are with a controller. I feel like a retard trying to use a controller now, it's funny.

yeah but some games are better with a controller right? Like Gears of War or fallout 3 or dead space right or devil may cry 4 right?

Any games originally developed for the consoles and then ported to the PC will play better on the gamepad, especially if the gameplay is customised for pressing the gamepad buttons rather than control through keyboard and mouse.

that is correct, but when a game is made at the same time for both such as unreal tournament III id say the PC wins cause the game is made more for PC controls, and i know the PS3 version allowed some people to use keyboard and mouse and ive heard they had to limit servers to just those people sometimes cause its not even fair when playing against controller players

GOW isn't better or easier with a gamepad... You just can't AIM with a gamepad as fast as you can with a mouse... I would like to see MP players with a gamepad in COD4 or even better, CS, lolx i bet they will be 2-50 :D

lol i plan on getting a gamepad and i plan on playing cs with it
I'll post the results once I'm done.

so the consensus is not to use a gamepad, even for third person games like dead space or gears of war?

what about devil may cry 4? the reviews say you need a controller because the pc controls are bad.

how did they get 2 kills?

devil may cry 4 begs for a gamepad. yeah.

gears of war and other third person games might feel a bit more natural with a gamepad, but the mouse is still more precise. solid gamepad player will lose to a solid mouse player.

wow so if i get a controller then it'll only be useful for devil may cry 4.
still, for some reason, it feels better, or at least it sounds better to me to play with a controller. it feels more gamer-ish

will any controller with 2 analog sticks do or do I need an xbox controller? Also, if xbox controller, will a regular one work or do I need a xbox360 controller?

Any 360 controller will work since its usb. Just plug it in and run windows update to get the drivers. Oringinal xbox controllers wont work.

Go to your local game store and buy a used "wired" 360 controller. I think i paid somewhere around 30 bucks for mine. You can go wireless if you want but you have to buy a wireless receiver for hte pc and then you have to deal with charging batteries which is more hassle to me for something i dont use that often.

For games like fable and mass effect download a program called xloader (sp?) This allows you to remap you controller to actual keyboard keys. I use this so i can play fable and mass effect on my 40 LCD with a controller :)

you can use many programs for remapping your gamepad with keyboard keys , anyway thats not the point of me writing about it.

For those who want to play with regular controller in games that only supports xbox 360 controller they should search for "xbox360 controller emulator". From what I experienced its only support 1 regular controller , so I guess it will ok for those who want to play a alone.
