    i just bought du dv5t (2.2 GHz core 2 duo , 4 GB ram , 9600m gt)
but i'm not getting any good performance in gaming
    i tried 2 old games
nba live 2007 and command and conquer generals zero hour destructive forces

in nba i played the game at a high resolution but very low settings
the display is good but the performance sux big time .....it's not fast enough and it's also (i don't know how to say it in english) it's not continuous lol :p
when i wanna shoot and the payer jumps the screen suddenly stops for a sec and when the game continue normally i find the player already did the complete jump and he almost did a travelling :p
i don't know how to explain it any better lol , hope you understood what i am trying to say
i used to play this nba on my laptop and it worked smoothly at very low settings and smaller resolution (my desktop 384mb of SD ram , 1.7 GHz , geforce4 mx 420 )
come on this nba is old and i am playing at low settings , it should run smoothly at very high settings ....
on zero hour destructive forces , the performance is good
but when i play with all 8 players it work fast and the for a while become very very very slow .... and so
for god's sake this game is old and i have a 512 mb dedicated video card

Try updating the drivers from Nvidia(they released mobile drivers for their laptop GPUs). That should improve the 9600M GT's performance.

Also, you mention high resolution, how high is it? High resolution can be just as much of a killer as high details if not more.

    1024 x 768 nba 2007
this is the maximum allowed on bna 2007 , but the other settings were extremely low and the game didn't run as well as it should be
this card must run this game at full settings and high resolutions without any blink

and i don't know about the driver thing , but i don't think it's the problem
these games are old , any frivers should make them work on a 512mb vga without any flaws

Hmmm, perhaps the game is simply not optimized properly to make use of modern GPUs? I know sometimes(although rarely) that is the case. The game/program simply isn't compatible with new technology. Perhaps it's also an OS compatibility issue. If you were running XP before and are now running Vista, maybe the game doesn't like Vista.

You can look in the device manager under the display adapters, but I am assuming you have the stock HP video drivers.

I would either update the HP drivers from the HP site:

    http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_pagetype=s-002&h_query=dv5t&submit.x=0&submit.y=0

Just chose which model of the DV5 you have and your OS -- I think you can find the model number on the bottom of your laptop.

Or I would use the laptopvideo2go drivers, which are better, but are a little more difficult to use.

Here is a guide on how to install them:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=258626

    And the laptopvideo2 go site:

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

    Hope this helps! :D

EDIT: Forgot NVIDIA offers notebook drivers now:

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_drivers.html

Any of these drivers should increase your game performance.

Well they'll install, but that doesn't mean they'll work. I have had many troubles with the KotoR series games, which would install, but would actually run 1 time out of 5. The other times though, the games were nice enough to tell me "this game is not compatible with Windows Vista"(or something like that).

You CAN enable compatibility mode for some games though.

    thank you
there's some drivers where the whql is false and some that are true
should i ignore that and install the newer drivers or just go with the newer with whql set as true??

    On the laptopvideo2go drivers?

If its the laptopvideo2go drivers they won't be WHQL certified because of the modded INF, so just ignore it.

If it is the other drivers (HP or the official NVIDIA drivers) the WHQL thing shouldn't come up -- but I doubt it will be a problem.

Just make a restore point to be safe before you mess with the drivers. :D

Hmm...it could be the XP thing Forever_Melody mentioned before.

I would check for patches for those games, check your power management settings to make sure your not on power saver, and disable Powermizer if you have it.

Let me know if it works or not! :D

    Unplugged?

If you are gaming unplugged Vista automatically downclocks a bunch of stuff. I would recommend gaming while plugged in to get the best performance.

COD4 is a newer game, so give that a try -- if it runs better than your older games its probably a problem with Vista, so you will have to run in compatibility mode or find a Vista patch for them.

    Good luck! :D

I got this Card but the ddr3 version.
    On oblivion

At a 1280x768 resolution , so to keep the aspect ratio of my 1920 x 1080 screen. I get 90 fps indoors and around 40-50 outside.

This is with most settings maxed. I'm really suprised about the performance.
