Duke Nukem Forever is a great future proof game!

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
games aren't futureproof. they are todayproof. they are trendy by definition.
but i guess some are less trendy than others. something like R6V2 is ultra trendy, and people will only play for a short while longer.
something like TF2 or L4D, people will play for a long time to come, but still not forever. CS 1.6 is not an eternal game. neither is CSS. their time(s) will come. -
Like many others said.... TF2 is here to stay for a long time
and CS 1.6 and CS:S have a huge player base
as others have said, i dont get the big thing about L4D, and i dont think it will last a long time, at least not as long as TF2 and counter strike -
Halo. People are still playing Halo 1, its release in 2001.
Just download Halo Trial from Microsoft, go online, and see how many servers are still running. -
Tic Tac Toe - played in the stone ages with the same graphics as today. Widely popular.

Another good future proof game more or less will DEFINITELY be Starcraft 2 i cat wait for that
Also any word on a halo 3 for pc? Geez they take forever to release the Halo games on PC -
Unfortunately it would be a parallel future. -
I think Call Of Duty 5. Until the next one comes, people will still be playing it.
-
I don't know about Fallout 3 as future proof. Oblivion definitely, Fallout 3 not so much. Maybe its just me, but I don't get the same feeling.
-
STARCRAFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and Diablo 2: lord of destruction
-
Haha definitely Starcraft. Somethings just never get old.
-
somebody called for an exterminator?
-
Is Left for dead still that popular?
-
Hmm.. well right now I have starcraft installed, along with CS 1.6 and source. So those would probably be my top picks.

After playing Batman i would say that that is also a future proof game.
-
Counter Strike and TF2 for sure. L4D has a sequel coming out and, unless valve handles it in some creative way, regular L4D will probably lose a bit of the players.
Warcraft 3 also has tons of people playing it still. Especially the Defense of the Ancients thing. -
I'm still playing Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy but I don't know how popular it is.
-
Company of Heroes.
-Fantastic gameplay, revolutionized RTS's
-Great Graphics.CoH's essence engine still looks innovative for an RTS even 4 years after it's release.
-Just Plan fun.No way CoH is going to die any time soon. -
I'd say counterstrike and if you like rts starcraft. games cant really be future proof though. its like beating a dead horse. if you get one game thing "garsh im gonna be playin this a long time" you will eventually get bored even if the game poops diamonds and tastes like a bacon cheeseburger.
-
cod4 is the best game out right now. but when mw2 comes out everyone will probably switch.
-
Starcraft 2
World of Warcraft
Diablo 3
Any Elder Scrolls or Bethesda Fallout game (mods) -
i doubt starcraft 2 is gonna be as great as everyone says. 1: no lan, 2: if you want the whole game you have to shell out 180 bucks. i bet its not gonna have nearly as many players as the first.
-
I would highly recommend The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I keep going back to it, finding more and more interesting mods. Plus, if you like to play an evil character, I believe a massive expansion mod for the Dark Brotherhood is planned on being released sometime this year ; )
-
fear combat fun
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Counter-Strike will never die.
-
team fortress 2, counterstrike, starcraft, call of duty 4
-
I would say Call of Duty, Counter strike, Oblivion with mods, Fallout 3 with mods.
-
).

I dont get why lots of ppls are saying about L4D being future proof, a game that makes a new title after a year from launch dont deserve to be in this topic... A sequel is not the same as original =P Like CSS is not CS: 1.6...
TF2 is the best option imo... They make lots of major updates and still the same game... love it...
For MMO theres Eve Online, two major updates per year ( guaranteed )... Those are massive updates for "free"... Server capacity always increasing, client performance improving and graphics getting better every year... Lots of new contents if you leave the game for 6 months to find out =) Im a Eve player for 3 years now and still lots of stuffs to explore... -

Which is better? Supreme Commander or Warhammer 40,000.

I'd have to go with WoW as the biggest one in terms of player base if you're just talking about games in general. Of course that would count buying the expansions though as they come out. Next one probably in a bit over a years time. So as far as a pay now and don't pay again, World of Warcraft wouldn't be the answer. Also you have to pay a monthly fee.
After that, as many people have mentioned, there is the TF2 and Counter Strike - either 1.6 or Source. Those three will continually have people playing them.
As far as RTS - Starcraft 2 really can't be beat due to its crazy fan base. But its also very dated graphically, so it might not be pleasing to someone who hasn't played it when it was new and can't associate with the nostalgia factor. AoE3 probably has a significant following, but I don't think anything like the popularity of Age of Empires 2. Its hard to find a good solid RTS that will stand the test of time, although you don't need a ton of people playing for an RTS game to be enjoyable, just enough to where you can find a server. So if you like RTS games just pick one which you enjoy the style of. Personally my favorite newish one is probably Battle for Middle Earth 2 (although the player base is tiny and EA doesn't update the game), then either supreme commander or Company of Heroes depending on your style of play.
If you are just worried about money and want a pretty popular FPS game that has some good cooperative team play and tactics which is a bit different from the rest, I'd suggest looking into America's Army 3. Its a FREE game so you really can't lose anything by getting it and trying it out. You can get it for free through steam or just going to the america's army website. I have it and I am no bombarded by recruitment signs or feel I am playing the Army's game like I think many people (and I did before I tried it) felt like it would be. Its just a fun shooter with some problems now and then due to lack of quality release, but it should be continually supported and of course its free.
Hope this helps! -
+ Starcraft 1. -
world of warcraft....
-
Say what you are going to say...but Diablo III will addict millions of gamers when it gets out
-
-
Aion the Tower of Eternity or FFXI. Both will have players on them for many years to come. FFXI has been one of the most successful mmorpg games for over 7 years now and even with the new FFXIV coming sometime in 2011 FFXI will continue to have thousands of players. Its the kinda game you have to devote a ton of time to though so if you are looking for a game you can just play in and out without subscription fees I would say give Oblivion, Fallout 3, Morrowind, Empire total war, or heck maybe even Guild wars a try.
-
ppl Diablo 3 will be the mother of all games, personally i wont sleep for few day when i get it
good futureproof game?
