I'd say to try some older games, circa the beginning of time - 2002ish. I don't know what kind of games you enjoy and I'm not really sure that you can get 30-40fps, but I would recommend:

Max Payne, Counter-Strike, and Warcraft III.

Check this out: Intel's Game Compatibility List for 945GM.

They say you can play F.E.A.R., definitely check that out. No doubt you're default settings will be lower than desirable, but F.E.A.R. is REALLY GOOD! Try the demo, at the least. And keep in mind the full version has been updated with patches so it will probable play better than the demo.

Red Faction (Avoid Red Faction II because it is terrible)
    Starcraft
    Diablo II LoD

Empire Earth + Expansion (Avoid EE2, it sucks hard! Hope EE3 will be better)
StarCraft + Expansion (Awesome old game!)
    Halo PC Version
Half-Life 2 + Episode One (You should run this game well at medium setting)
Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas (Although it's a 2005ish game, but its system requirement is quite low)

More games, in order of rank scores:

Second on WC3 and starcraft w/ expansion. The early neverwinter nights are good too and so is the baldurs gate series. having been deeply addicted to diablo 2 at one point in my life...i would recommend against it. At least when i played a couple of years ago, it was really repetitive and linear and easy. The only thing that made the game addictive was looking for rare items. I heard that a patch was implemented a little while after i quit that made the game alot harder though. maybe its better now =p (probably still linear hack and slash though if you're into that sort of thing.)

WarCraft 3 is a good recommendation if you like RTS.

Far Cry & UT2004 are worth playing as cheap FPS alternatives.

Far Cry and UT2K4 do not work properly on the GMA series. Neither does Half Life 2 or San Andreas. Some of them do technically work, but are so buggy and/or inconsistent with framerates that it isn't worth bothering.

Some good titles that work well are Soldier of Fortune 2, Wolfenstein, Command and Conquer Generals, Call of Duty, Quake III, and other stuff from around 2002-ish, as somebody else said. Some fairly modern games work too, but it's hit and miss. Dawn of War, Winter Assault and Dark Crusade work pretty well on lowest settings, and surprisingly it looks fairly ok on such settings and is great to play.
