hi, just bought a new sony vaio Nr series. everythings good apart from the graphics card, its a Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100. its interated so i know its not brilliant but will the better specs of the RAM (2GB) and processor (core 2duo) help it. also what kind of games will it be able to run, im not expecting crysis or anything but will some quite new games work on mid or low settings.
thanks for any advice you can give
sorry just found a thread about it so dont need to reply
thanks

i don't know what new games you will be playing but if they are even remotely graphic intensive then i don't think the integrated will be able to handle them. Maybe if you gave names of some of the games you will be playing someone could help you out better.
-
It will play games like Half-life 2, World of Warcraft and things like that; generally speaking, it will run most games, but don't expect it to run games with settings maxed out. What kind of games do you want to run?
-
I am sure Starcarft and Age of Empires will run at max.... =P ... But seriously speaking, for almost any new game you will be able to play at the lowest of the lowest settings. Don't expect miracles from an integrated card. For sure the laptop will play with very good settings any game realeased at 2004 and before.

If you are talking about just-released games like Hellgate: London, you are probably going to be using low settings. I wouldn't call them lowest of the low for ALL of them. Games using the Source Engine will probably run fairly well at medium or higher settings.
As has been said before, it will run most games, just not really modern ones (Hellgate: London) at above low-medium settings. -

An integrated laptop GPU will either not run those games at all or run it so slowly at minimum settings that you wouldn't enjoy playing it at all. -
WoW will run smoothly on a CGA card in a ISA slot.
-
Specswise, the X3100 is better than the Geforce 6600GT but Intel is slow on the drivers -
-
You should return it and get a laptop with 8600m gt if you want to play games imo. Sony's are overpriced
-
And out - side instance if you want a smooth gameplay with your distance slider set all the way to the max @ highest settings you need a solid video card. I imagine a 7950 @ least.
Unless of course you play on low res or enjoy straining your eyes with a 30 - ish fps... -
can't strain your eyes on lcd - the light is on constantly regardless of fps

I got Hellgate London to work with a nVidia FX 5500 256 MB. [Desktop Card]
Altough it runs with 15-40 FPS its still fells quite playable.
So if Intel X3100 is faster than nVidia FX 5500, it should start the game i think.
[But i ay also be wrong about this one too.] -
Guys, seriously...if you do not actually know the hardware, or can site solid references, please do not say something about its technical capabilities.
There is too much misinformation on the boards regarding Intel GPUs. Please try to get it right, so that others can benefit! -

I ran Fear Combat on mine (vista didn't seem to like it much), but i was getting very decent frames (albiet, it was the lowest resolution) I guess, considering youve got more ram, and a better processor than mine ?(see sig) you'd have a better experience with it. I'm planning on seing of BF2142 will rin (like some of the intel vids on utube show) after i put xp on, and put 2 gigs in. we'll see...but its really not that bad. I run ut 2004 very very well.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Well HL episode 2 is a modern game and it well run tha too. Also a side note my overclocked 8600m can run gears of war and cod4 at 1680 x 1050 with max settings or near max settings with framerates in the low to high 20s, so I don't understand how your 8800 can't.
