670M will never be Kepler. They should release a new card, most likely based on 660M and OC to 670M performance or maybe a little bit more.

Anyway, 670M is not at all a bad card. I had 660M in G55 and 670M in G75 so I can compare numbers and temperatures quite well. Both were good from the start.

A normal OC on 660M will get it around 670M performance. The overall system temp rises quite a lot due to cooling desing in G55 if CPU is under load as well. GPU itself keeps good temps.

A normal OC on 670M will get around 675M performance. GPU temp will rise very little and it's comparable to G55.

A max OC on 670M with stock voltage will go above 675M performance, system stable 100%. 660M is locked so you need to modify more to get a better OC out of it. 670M is not locked.

Batteries are about the same in both of them and with G55 I got around 30' more. I don't think it matters that much.

670M is Fermi only. If you want Kepler, wait or choose 660M.

While the 670m (570m) and the 675m (580m) are based on Fermi it does not mean they are slow, just based on "outdated" hardware.
Nobody knows if Nvidia will do a 665m or a 685m so dont feel like you need to wait for the next batch of tech.

If you need a notebook just get one.

Fermi = Hot, big, draw lots of power, good with GPGPU, 40nm, 400M/500M series + 670M/675M
Kepler = New, low temperatures (Celsius/performance), smaller than Fermi, draw much less power than Fermi, totally crap with GPGPU, 28nm. 640M/650M/660M/680M

    It's Fermi. Here's the landscape:
    Kepler:650, 660, 680
    Fermi:670,675

Not considering process step, power draw or overclocking, the gaming performance of these parts follows the model numbers just as you would assume. GPGPU performance is taken by the Fermi parts.

Yes, but if the laptop was made for it, it should work OK. Asus G55 with 660M in it is not much lower in temps than G75 with 670M. And both are just warm.

On the other hand, Dell N7720 with 650M in it will burn your fingers. So just the fact that a laptop has Kepler means nothing really.

Depends on what notebook you buy.
    Clevo P150EM / 170EM can use 670m, 675m, 680m and HD 7970m.
Probably the same with Alienware m17x r4.

Not sure about MSI shipping with the HD 7970m by default but it is possible to user upgrade as long as you mod your headsink.

You might go ask in the Asus Gaming subforum.
As for my limited knowledge of the model i still think it wont be able to upgrade the GPU much.

Extremely difficult. Asus made the MXM cards way different than Clevo/MSI/Dell 7970M/680M MXM cards so there is a ton of modding to do to make it work.

Asus G73 have normal MXM cards, so thats your safest bet

If you go with the G73JH then you would be stuck with first generation i7.
The default CPU: i7 720QM is clocked at 1,6 GHz.
