Are you asking what hardware you need to run it smoothly?

I've heard you have to have XBoxLive to play Halo 2 PC online. Can anyone confirm/deny this? Without an XBox there'd be no point for me to get it if I had to pay to play (one game wouldn't justify the cost).

Also, anyone had any luck running Halo 2 on XP? I'm not switching to Vista for any reason, but I've heard the Vista requirement is entirely superficial and the game can, from a technical standpoint, be run on XP.

    I got the game

yes u do need "xbox live".
    sort of,

for the pc its called "windowslive" (or something)
you dont need to pay to playonline like xbox, but to gain achievement and points whilst playing you need to pay for gold membership, hardly worth paying just for that tbh.

and yes you can play halo 2 on xp using a patch, (google around - patch is free)

however you wont be able to play online if you do.

as for system requirements, the laptop i had struggled to run halo 2 on medium settings @ 1280 x 720 (smoothly anyway)

    i had mobility radeon x1700 256 mb.
so i you have a lower card, u will find it wont run well unless you turn down the resolution.

    hope that helps

OK, thanks. Since the whole point of Halo/Halo 2 for me is to play online (strangely the only game I play online), and Vista is not acceptable, it's not worth it for me.

At least it is free to play online. Paying a monthly fee to pay a game still doesn't make sense to me, probably because I'm so used to single-player.

Wish I could play it, but I'm not at all sorry for Microsoft for losing $50 because of Vista!

Rather than opening a new thread I'll post here :)
I've got Halo 2 for my laptop, runs at about 15fps (yeah I know)
The ingame graphics option are terrible, basically resolution and a graphics option of low, med, and high. I wanted to know if there is any other way of lowering the graphics for it. Help please.

Would you be able to run halo 2 smoothly
with the 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600?
