what laptop and operating system are you using. certain drivers seem to have a few issues with certain laptops.
other option is to change to official nvidia drivers. most stable ive found so far are 186.81

i find dox drivers can be very unpredictable and often give me higher temperatures as they are aimed at getting all the possible speed out of your card. go for the official nvidia drivers but not the newest ones i think its the 18x.xx drivers which work best i think i have the 186.xx (cant remember exactly) ones and they are great

the temps arn't really much of a problem for me, i just need to squeeze every ounce of speed i can out of this gpu, since its only 128Mb, geforce 8400m gs

If you're having trouble with a driver, change drivers...? Seems too obvious, is there a reason you want to stick with this driver?

I second 186.81/.82, they're quite stable and nothing else seems to consistently get better performance.
