On notepad? Ah...if you count Pong as a shooter game, I saw this text file once where if you scroll down at a constant rate it shows a ball bouncing back and forth...

Without a pixel shader, you can do software emulation via the CPU. Uh if it's an old enough game, it might run at a reasonable rate. I'm thinking, games from 5 or 6 years ago?

Doom, doom2, Heretic, Hexen, Duke Nukem 3D, etc. will definitely run fine.

You can also do Quake, Quake2, and maybe even Quake3 (which supports software emulation).

Duke 3d is a bit extreme gator don't you think! You are right when you say games that are maybe 4-5 years old, but Duke 3D is ten years old! Doom is 12 years old at this stage also.

Anyway. Quake III will work fine, as will stuff like Call of Duty, Soldier of Fortune 2, Castle Wolfenstein, that sort of stuff.

Of course, its not just about Pixel Shader. If you have Intel Extreme, some of those games might not work anyway regardless of pixel shader. (or possibly some will work, just perhaps very badly).

However if you've something like a Geforce 4mxGo, all those games and many more like UT2004, Far Cry, etc, won't be a problem.

Even at worst case if it is Intel Extreme, there is plenty to enjoy like Half Life, Quake III, Unreal Tournament, etc.
