hey guys, now i'm done with stalker(an amazing game btw, but i'm not playing it again until they realese some good mods for it), i'm looking for another good fps to play, so after doing some search, i settled down for:

    1-prey
    2-condemned:criminal origins

i know that both games are great, but i have to choose one right now, and they both hover around the same price, so what do you guys think?

Why not try out the demo's if you haven't already?

    Depends.

Want to be scared, or to run upside down and be invincible?

    I'd go with condemned.

i thought prey is pretty scary too, but what i'm looking for is a game that doesn't get repetetive after few hours.
and yes i could've downloaded the demos, but a demo doesn't indicate how good a game is, so i thought it could be better to me get some advice from someone who've already played one or maybe both of them

Prey is weird. I tried the demo, wasn't sure if I was that impressed. It's neat in multi-player. Reminds me of the Aliens games they had out a few years back, with being able to run on the walls adn such.

Condemned is kind of slow. Spooky. Controls are okay. It's somewhat interesting, but not as good as I thought it would be. But hey, it's really cheap. I'm not sure how to describe the game, I'm not that far into it.

Prey in my opinion is much better, at least the demo was.

I was not impressed by the Condemned demo.

For me, it's Prey. I loved both games, but Prey was a little more adventurous and had a quirky but pretty damn sweet storyline, the characters made it very interesting too. Condemned made me cack myself a few times, and as I was after that I found it very satisfying (not in a sick way). It too had an interesting storyline, but it was VERY slow. There isn't a sprint button, and the one they give you kinda runs out after about 15 seconds of running. The atmosphere was great though, so if you want a game with a scary atmosphere and settings and very creepy sound effects, and have a fair amount of patience, then definitely go for Condemned. But if you want a little more fun and a little more 'pick-up-and-play', it's Prey for you.

Also, Condemned is based on the FEAR engine, and all the menus are styled practically the same as those in FEAR, but graphically the game is a little more demanding than FEAR.

I haven't tried Condemned, but Prey was nothing special, tbh. A few nice gimmicks (the gravity/portal stuff was cool), but essentially the same old shooter that in many ways feels like it should have come out before HL2.

The actual gameplay gets repetetive and tedious a lot of the time, the graphics are nothing special, and the way the story is told seemed so clumsy compared to HL2.

Still decent fun for a handful hours, but only if you don't have anything better to do.

maybe i'd go for condemned, as i like games with great atmosphere and sound effects, but is true that its more demanding than fear?
how do you think it's gonna run on my system(inspiron 9400, 2gb, go 7900gs)?

BTW, why are you looking between these two?

If you want a unique experience from a game, check out Indigo Prophecy. It also goes under another name, but I forgot. I think Farenheit (it's real name, the publishers forced it to be changed to Indigo Prophecy). It's an amazing game that has a neat story line. Very cinematic.

I'd go with Condemned. Prey is cool at first, but once you realize it's impossible to lose the game. Seriously, after you get your spirit form a half hour in, just stand in the middle of a firefight and go make a sandwich. Don't worry, you'll live.

    You can't not.

I've been meaning to pick up Condemned, though.

Damn, hollownail you have a point there - Fahrenheit as it was called in the UK (Indigo Prophecy in the US) I thought was one of the best and most unique games I ever played. The level of interaction was really high, you did things that had real significance on the whole course of the game. Not only that it also had a real good psychological thriller storyline. Seriously check it out if you're looking for something unique/new.

Well, Ive played them both and finished them on my 360, but i would have to say i enjoyed condemed better. It's just my type of game. Exam: i loved doom 3, some people hated it. Depends what kind of game your into. I like the mystery and the spookiness from condemed. Prey just got boring and it was short. It was very unique though. As for system requirements, i do believe its from the fear engine, however from an older version.

Do you like going upside down and shooting aliens constantly and doing some unique puzzles with also some very WEIRD weaponry and very cool.

    OR

do you like going in dark corridors and hearing footsteps one floor above you and thinking about which way are they going for you while you hold a pipe, a 2x4 or an axe in your hand with a cool melee system?

both games are great, but like i said everyone has this own opinion and type of game they like.

I liked prey but i want to point out some weak points.

It is incredibly easy. There is no challenging part really, you are invincible and you keep going until you win..

    its short, about 15 hours.

Its story is great and immersive though. Graphics are good and running speed is good to for my system

I dont know anything about the other game

Again, I lost all interest in Prey once I realized it was impossible to lose. If they got rid of that I'd be exponentially more interested in it; it's a gorgeous game with amazing environments and an odd story.

But the fact that you can't lose kills the urgency.

well guys, my impressions about the game this far(i'm about 6 hours into it):
simply amazing, i'm glad i bought it, and actually i think it's better than fear.
i really liked those investigation sequences, they are very unique, and add some variety to the game. the graphics are great, and the game is so atmospheric, it can be pretty scary sometimes, actually it scared far more than doom 3 and fear did. it's not without it's flaws though, the combat can be very repetetive, and the level design can be very confusing sometimes, there were many occasions when i just couldn't figure out where to go next. but still, this is agreat game. thanks guys

Prey is good if you're into you're into dispatching loads of enemies, good atmosphere/graphics and the occaisonal puzzle. Be warned that you're practically invincible, so it's not very challenging.

I played through a little bit of condemned on my bro's 360. It was interesting, but slow as all hell.

If you're really looking for an amazing FPS and haven't played it yet, try Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. Prolly the most underappreciated game ever. It blends shooting, stealth, and hand to hand seamlessly. Lots of variety. But you might have to look for it on ebay. I don't know if anyone still sells it.

londez is right. Riddicj is one of the most underappreciated games, but if you really wanna go with your choices maybe you should try the demos. I preffer condemed, it's more atmospheric than prey but prey has more action. better to try and decide for yourself.

Agreed, the chronicles of riddick EFBB is one of the best! I loved it! Everyone that i know who has played it also agrees, it's very underappreciated for how good it is.

I know you already bought condemned, but here's my thoughts on em.

Condemned is a bit slow, I like these types of games, but I found myself getting bored of it within an hour, and never played it again. graphics were nice though. I'll give it another chance sometime once I can get a PC copy.

Prey was really fun. even though you can't really die, it was still very unique. Most of the puzzles were unique and revolved around the way you shift gravity around. Did I mention all the weapons are alive! The only weapon that isn't a living creature is the wrench! In my opinion, at 1920x1080 this game looks alot better than FEAR ever did!

you're definitely right about riddick, guys. it's one of the best games i ever played, it's got everything, amazing graphics, terrific atmosphere, high quality voice acting and completely satisfying combat and gameplay, i played it like 4 times or so. even the story is great, actually the game got me intrested in the whole franchise, i was looking for everything that had riddick in it, i watched the movies( ***** black and dark fury were really good but the sequel sucks). it's really up there with classics such as half-life 2 and deus ex.
