I own heros of might and magic and also the expansion hammers of fate. I cant get hammers of fate to start steam keeps saying to try again later. I cant figure out why. At first I thought it was because I didnt enter a serial number in the original game but I cant figure out where to even enter it. I do have a valid serial I just have no idea where to enter it. Ive looked everywhere and the game hasnt asked me for it. so anyone have any advice how I can get hammers of fate working or where the heck the serial goes. should i try reinstalling?

If you're using your Mac that might be why you can't play it

That's asking alot for a E-450 and 6320. I'm really surprised Heroes V is working on your system.

When I had a similar system, recent games barely played on it, which could be your problem.

Remember - Game expansions tend to up the requirements.

hehe. i prefer kings bounty but im liking heroes. I got hammers of fate working I installed tribes of the east which installed an updated directx. after that hammers of fate worked flawlessly.

Ive played quite alot on this little netbook including the newest heroes and kings bounty, torchlight, oblivion, and more.

I was never much of a fan of HOMM5. I went back and revisted HOMM3 for the last couple of days and it's excellent compared to the newer titles. I even did a "retro review" on it that should be posted in a day or two.

well I got a steam deal on HOMM5 bundle so it didnt cost much. I do eventually want to try them all including 3. There is also a game like the HOMM series and kings bounty called disciples 3. I havent played it but its a few years old so its not that expensive. I may check it out.

Heroes 6 is excellent if you haven't tried it.

It feels like a modern heroes 3 (3 is still the best though).

I was never a fan of 5 b/c it felt incomplete and lacking.

Heroes 3 will forever be the king :)

    -There's no no magic tower
    -everybody has advanced town portal
-you can level the ultimate ability during 1 "battle" by grinding
    -3 resources lol

    I played it on a 486 :)

I know I'm going to get slated for this but I actually quite liked 4, the fact you hero was a part of the battle and it was quite viable to use two in your army was quite nice.

    (referring to #6)
I played about 15 games+ of it on Hotseat with my brother (each game being around 6-10 hours) and found it to be challenging after they fixed the AI bug. Now the AI is actually good/decent. We always play on the most challenging mode possible and found it to be quite entertaining.

The advanced town portal is actually a good thing in my opinion, however I must agree on the 3 resources issue. Resource management is alot more simple to manage than it was in #3, that's for sure (I prefered #3's resource management).

Another thing I'm iffy about is that one of the five factions has permanent water walking, which gives whoever is playing them quite advantage on water/island maps, BUT every faction gets the option to purchase an alt from that faction at the start of the game through the tavern. Downside is that you can only carry creatures from their faction or else water walking becomes disabled.

Lastly, prior to the patch, hotseat players could trade resources and gold, which is now disabled. We can only trade creatures and artifacts ...if we trade moon discs (4 discs = the most powerful tool of the game, which gives the player 5k gold/per day + strong bonuses), they completely vanish permanently.

These are the only issues I have with #6. ;)

Best to worst in order (opinion based - played them all):
    1. #3
    2. #6
    3. #4
    4. #5 (I really, really dislike #5 - it just feels unfinished)

    I've never played #1 or #2.

Baka believes HoMM 4 is the worst amongst them all. It didn't have the proper HoMM feeling

They went back on track slightly with 5. 6's new change making Baka :( The bugs are making Baka :( more

I loved those (started over and over again), but also at that time I was more into Master of Magic. Now that I think of it, there was ever a similar distractor game taking me out of HOMM games. MoM, King's bounty (this one really distracts me from ALL games of my library :D)

The problem with kings bounty is the lack of a hotseat option, me and my m8 specifically play them on one PC, I find the games kinda lacking on your own.

Although I've only played #5 (knowing how classic were #s 3 & 4), I agree that #5 is simply unfinished (not bad, but I had always the feeling that something was missing...).

Only if you played 1&2 after 3. Try to play UT99 after UT3 or Halflife 1 after 2

Add to that pathetic AI. You can play on impossible without ever losing your troops and there are several ways to do that.
