hi, anyone have any idea why my ping on all steam games are so high? i never had this problem before and i stopped playing on steam for a few weeks but then i started it back up and since last nite my pings are all 120+
i can play cod4 fine and other games, but it seems like just the steam games i own (tf2, cs:s, dod:s) all have massive high pings with only like 5 games on the whole server list being under 100.
any ideas or suggestions? yes i am on a wireless connection but i never had any problems before, always had stable and great pings especially over the steam games. any help would be appreciated. thanks
okay i just ran a speed test on this wireless connection, and as i thought its perfectly fine yet im still getting high pings on my steam gamesheres what the connection test said im running at
Download Speed: 8919 kbps (1114.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1463 kbps (182.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

120 is not high
my neighbor's wifi gets 200-600 ping -

Have you recently changed your router config? I reccomend unplugging the router, and then plugging it back in 30 seconds. That generally helps me ever 1-2 weeks.

Distance from the actual server could cause it aswell. In Japan I get about 120 ping for Eastren American and Canadian servers (100mb/s connection)

Steam can be crazy like that sometimes. These problems usually fix themselves in time. I remember Steam always had problems like this. Everyone at one point in time had a "Couldn't read Steam ticket ID" error.
First find out if the servers you are playing on are far away from where you live. You can always set the filters to your location.
Since all your games work fine, it seems like its Steam/CSS. Have you checked your rates? -
well there has been no change in my latency ;\ im not sure what to do to fix it, im just used to it being between 60-80 or somewhere around there. i was just playing ona server though with an average of 150 for a ping and didn't notice any lag. theres only about 5-6 servers out of the millions on there that are under 100 for some reason still
anyone else with any ideas? the last thing i want to do is unplug my router because it'll reset my IP. but if thats my last option i will. -
okay i just filtered out everything except the US - East and US - West servers and it appears they are all good pings. i just never had to do this before and could join pretty much any server, i wonder why its different now. oh well, at least i can play.

I noticed that the server-browser reports pings rather inaccurately lately. Like if it shows a server at say 160 or so, and I join, once in-game, my pings say they are at 30 or so.
high ping over steam?
