    Hi

I have a Nvidia 7900 gs. I'm keep reading in threads that people are playing games in the highest settings. How do you turn up settings for games?

Also with Direct X ten coming out will it make my card obselete in a couple of months time as it does not run Direct x 10.? As theses days most games only run on direct x 9 direct x 8 cards would then become obselete. so as I said will mine now 10 is coming out ? :)

The settings are specific for each game. They normally reside in the Options section in most games. There is also normally a bar, which gives you the options to run up or down the main settings of the game. Then there are subsequent bars which are for further fine tuning. If you want to change the AA, it will be one of these bars, as well as the resolution.

Your current Go 7900 GS is not a slow card, and is more than powerful enough to last a number of years yet. DX10 has been released, but games designers will not take a huge gamble and make all the games the make DX10. Most of the games that will be developed over the next few years will be both. Don't worry about DX10, as it will take a long time for it to be permantently settled in the gaming community.

The DirectX 10 situation is similar to that of 64 bit applications... however, 64 bit isn't even close to being an advantage, let alone 32 bit's extinction. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.

    actually, thats not quite right

you can run 32 bit apps with a 64 bit processors but you CANNOT run dx10 on dx9 hardware

but no worries, dx9 will be around for quite a few years

    Your making a wrong comparison:

    These two comparisons are good:

    1) you can't run 64 bit apps with a 32 bit processor and you cann't run dx10 on dx9 hardware.

    2) you can run 32 bit apps with a 64 bit processor and you can run dx9 on dx10 hardware.

"you can run 32 bit apps with a 64 bit processors but you CANNOT run dx10 on dx9 hardware"

    what is wrong with that?

    you can't run dx10 on a dx9 hardware gpu
just like how you can't run 64 bit app on x86 cpu

a 64 bit cpu can run 32 bit apps
just like how you can run dx9 on dx10 hardware

hmmmmm, i guess Mturco11x was right that dx10 is like 64bit apps. opps, sorry, did not sleep that night (was trying to stay awake at school).

The difference between the normal Go 7800 and the Go 7800 GTX is similar to the difference between the Go 7900 GS and the Go 7900/7950 GTX. Basically, the latter models of each generation are simply just more powerful versions of the former, with more pipelines and higher clocks. There are based on much the same architecture. I have linked a page below where you can see the comparison.
