Yeah, It is. The character in the game at least. Check out these specs. It makes me feel inferior buying a laptop.

Windows XP (with Service Pack 3) and DirectX 9.0c or (Windows Vista with Service Pack 2)
Video Card: 256 MB 3D hardware accelerator card required - 100% DirectX 9.0c with Shader Model 3 support*
Processor: Pentium(R) Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ or better
RAM: 1 GB of RAM for Windows XP / 2 GB Windows Vista systems
Hard Drive Space: 8 GB of uncompressed hard disk space (Plus 500MB for swap file.)
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0 –compliant sound card
    DVD-ROM: DVD-ROM

good luck finding a laptop that can play this BEAST OF A GAME
    <<<without overheating>>>

All NVIDIA GeForce 7800 256 MB and better chipsets
All ATI Radeon X1800 256 MB and better chipsets

howwill a 280/260M stack up against those?

    I don't understand this post.

I assume only the last 3 lines are relevant?

The GT280M and 260M will eat both alive.

Look at the processor. 2.6 GHz? come on. That HAS to be wrong. unless the 5797 can overclock, i'll be far surpassed soon by games. i might just get an M17X, though i can't afford it

    .....

    Let me repeat myself.

    You are not making sense.

You have a bunch of requirements and specs, and a question if how the GPUs compare to the requirements.

What is this game even? I'm guessing you're referring to the game Prototype.

AND WHY IS THIS EVEN IN THE WNBSIB Forum?

ok, nvm. it was more informational. it should really be moved to a discussion somethingorother. QUESTION IS= with the jump from, 2.2 to 2.6Ghz, what can we expect from future gaming laptop processors and prices?

It's for a Pentium Dual Core.
A Pentium D 2.6ghz is equivalent to the X2 3800+. A C2D 2.6 would be stupid, as it would eat a 3800+ X2 for breakfast and still be very hungry. I mean,we're talking about an E6600 which kicks the X2 6000+ in the balls IIRC.

    Holy Crap
    Minimum System Requirements
    DirectX : 9.0c
Hard Drive Space : 8 GB Free
    Operating System : Windows XP SP3/Vista SP2
    Processor : Intel Core 2 DUO E4700/AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
    RAM : 1 GB
Video Card : 256 MB (nVidia GeForce 7800/ATI Radeon X1800)

The AMD/Intel comparison is still pretty messed up. I'm downloading it right now, will see how it runs. At worst I'll get the 360 version.

Well except for the graphics, that's not TOO bad. Though I'm getting sick of these multiplatform games with devs that don't make any concessions for lower end graphics processors. The multiplatform GPU standard is in the class of the ATi 9800/X700/X800 and Geforce 6600/6800, not the freaking Geforce 7800. That's ridiculous since the original 7800s are just below the capabilities of the 360 and PS3's (RSX is a form of the G71!). Lazy devs. But alas, anyone with a Geforce 8600GT or better and anyone with an ATi 3650 or better should be able to play this game easily assuming the 7800 is the minimal GPU you need just to get the most basic available performance in Prototype, but seriously, come on, lower the texture resolution or something to get it playable on older hardware Activision, you're cutting off a huge piece of the market by doing that >:/

Honestly I hope it's a bluff kinda-sorta, becaue GTA4 which "requires" a 7800 as well will run I hear on a 7600 which is roughly 2/3 as powerful and it runs well on the Radeon 4350/4550 easily (there is a video on youtube). Maybe the high GPU requirements are just a way to create a nice "buffer zone" of performance so that uninformed or unknowledgable people get a better idea there 7300 really isn't up to par........either way though, it's still ridiculous >:/

Now it's still possible the high requirements are justifiably high due to better graphics on the PC version hopefully, but even Crysis and Warhead, the best looking action games on the PC still have an unbeatable amount of scalability and they look great.

all i know is he thinks a x1300 is a powerful GPU?

or that a 50$ athlon CPU is powerful?

This is just like The Last Remnant. There is almost no differences between low and high quality. The game runs great if you have the requiered specs.

How do you switch between DX9 and 10?

EDIT: Just tried and the differences between low, medium and high lie in the physics and special effects, not the actual graphics. There's no blood on low for instance.

Most machines "will eat" that game for breakfast.

2.6ghz isn't anything big, and since the gpu requirement is so low, more weight will be on the GPU if your CPU isn't up for it, but a 2ghz proc will be fine, heck im gna try it on a 7600 go with t2400 (1.83ghz) :)

I find I get about the same fps whether I set this game to medium or high. I think that if you have a really good high end GPU with at least 1GB of VRAM, you are all set. I have played this game more and I think it is simply brilliant. The graphics are ace, the combat is fun, the game is fast paced and you can chose how you want to complete a mission i.e go in all guns blazing or absorb and morph using stealth.

I recommend this game to everyone.

The game is like GTA mixed with Spiderman with a bit of Hulk Ultimate destruction, with a little Left 4 dead + X-Men Origins Wolverine.

Possibly the OP's first foray into the world of laptop computers and their range of performance specs, apart from the abnormally high GTAIV-esque CPU requirements I don't see any problems with most PCs running the game.

Ok for confusion of what this game actually is here ya go I have been waiting for like 10months for it to come out! [PROTOTYPE] is a open world game where You play as the main character Alex Mercer with no memory and you start out in a autopsy it gets going pretty good from the beginning not knowing who You are or What you are gets interesting, Alex has many powers Shapeshifting taking the appearance of other people making his arms into claws,a shield,a whip, hammer fists,a giant blade and a few other things it gets fun, Its set in Manhattan where a viral infection gets spread by the Military(of course) and they try to contain it and the city itself becomes infected the buildings turn into giant hives that spit out infected humans and animals the enviroment is destroyable, blown up,torn apart or whatever you feel like!. Well I hope this helped you guys heres some vids.

    Shapeshifting my favorite!
    <object width='560' height='340'><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GGantWzoO5A&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GGantWzoO5A&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='560' height='340'></embed></object>

    Now some story!
    <object width='560' height='340'><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Z1TM3kod6CU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Z1TM3kod6CU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='560' height='340'></embed></object>

sorry the vid's quality sucks but thats that and I don't have a HD monitor so it may look better to you!

Oh and this game looks like it would kill most low-end gamin laptops DEAD as far as FPS and graphics the action seens are more than seens they're like whoawhoawhoooooooooooa.

    Hi there!

I played this fgame yesterday in a Desktop PC with Pentium M at 3.0GHz with a 9500M GT inside, fully maxed out in WXGA if not mistaken.

The game runs fast and well mostly, but when action becomes intense it starts to lag a little, it is still playable, but it gets somewhat noticeable.

When you are just walking around without fighting, it is really fast.

This games ROCKS! Yo=u have no idea how fun it is to smash enemies, absorb them, destroy choppers with bare fists, kill everything, throw cabs at soldiers, it is really fun, and climbing walls with the blade, and then jumping down is superb! MASS DESTRUCTION FTW!! Totally recommend it!

lol @ the OP... This game requires like a $500 laptop to play so I don't see what the big deal is. you can even get something with a 9600m for like ~$700 or a 9800m gs for ~$900, and that would max it out.

i think the OP was asking why it was asking so much from the processor on the box, because on the box it says it needs a Pentium Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6 GHz

surely a core 2 duo 2.6GHz cant be right? especially if its only asking for an AMD 3800+.
JCMS seemed to get the point. he basicly said the box was wrong, and that they meant a pentium D 2.6GHz, not core 2 duo 2.6GHz.

Eh, it doesn't really matter though. Once you buy a new system you can expect it to max out things for the next 6-18 months and then it begins the slow trend of downgrading the game quality. I'm hoping mine will be able to max things out until the end of 2010, but that'll probably only happen if I'm lucky.

So how are the controls (via mouse and keyboard) for this game? easy to get used to or requires a learning curve?
