ok i didnt have high expectations for the x3100 but cs 1.6 is running at 10FPS which is worse than my x30 with intel extreme graphics sooo...what do i do..
im using the latest 14.31.1 drivers for XP...
-
Try using different drivers; my friend has the x3100 and he can run the game smoothly.
-
ok installed the beta 14.31 drivers, performance even worse, barely 10fps in CS 1.6
this is madness!! -
Make sure you're plugged in and in the highest performance mode, make sure you have the XP multithreaded hotfix (I'm not sure if Lenovo does that for you or not), and make sure all background apps/processes are turned off.

i tried the power supply and it is scorching hot, my x30 ps is barely warm but this one i cant even touch its so hot, is that normal?
OK im on to something here, unplugging the PS and running CS in battery mode FPS went up 2x to 30fps...wtf??
ok, same thing in Quake 4
do i have a defective power supply?? did i mention it makes whining noises nonstop lol? -
it did the same thing to me with my toshiba
i needed to reset my power saving setting. -
well Lenovo is rushing me a new power supply, should be here in 3 days, damn you IBM for selling out >:|

hi
i have a hp compaq 6710s which has an integrated x3100. even though i consider myself a gamer, i wasn't looking for a gamer's laptop i just bought it for work while continuing to play on my desktop. but i was surprised by the power of the x3100 especially after the 14.31 xp driver, well at least compared to intel's previous versions of laptop chipset integrated accelerators, those versions could hardly play a dvd or a 2d mario like game, but this x3100 has hardware pixel and vertex shading, T&L support and all that with minimal power consumption and most importantly FREE! this accelerator comes with the 965 chipset even if the laptop has another ATI or nVidia accelerator, u just dont use it if there's another one, so it's practically free if u use it and i think it's performance is very much near the average performance of those standalone accelerators. but let's admit it, after all laptop gaming isn't so much joy when it comes to newer games, the most powerful power-hungry laptop chipset is absolutely CRAB compared to its desktop counterpart. even the middle class desktop chipsets seem to beat all laptop chipsets BIG TIME.
well sorry for not being brief, i was trying to make a point there .. back to ur cs 1.6, i really think x3100 should run it smoothly, i've tested it with more complecated games like infernal and stalker and it did very well ... i advice u to turn on ur windows automatic updater and of course ur anti-virus updater. if u already have an anti-virus, try to turn it off when playing the game, sometimes it works.
Good Luck. cheers -
All powersupplies that I've used get very hot when in use. But I've only used 90W and 120W PS. And yes, it seems your PS is faulty.
-
I"m ready to bet that the power supply is fine. And he need to reset his power scheme.
I had the same trouble; and many people had also the same problem. ( i googled it some days ago) -
ok the answer for my problem was found, and it wasnt the power supply....although the power supply was bad too and i replaced it with a quiet one that runs much cooler
running the laptop on AC with the battery REMOVED locks the CPU on low clock setting and theres nothing you can do to change it (software or bios), trust me i tried everything
this issue is present on several thinkpad models im not sure what other computers, you can test it if you want -

Yes that makes sense. Finicky support for T&L and VS on the GMA X3100 can't really be blaimed for CS1.6 problems seeing that the original Half Life engine was built using DX6 level technology with no use of DX7 level T&L or shaders.
The CPU throttling with battery removed also applies to Apple laptops. Might be of little comfort to you, but it's interesting to know that Apple isn't the only one effected by this "feature" since there was a discussion of this before and we thought only Apple laptops were effected. -
well there is always a 'little' comfort in knowing someone else is suffering too =) still sucks alot though
horrible performance x3100
