i've searched around, but can't find any benchmarks
i just ordered a Dell E1505 with the X1400 256mb hypermemory
i can cancel my order (but wanted to get it before the coupon expired)
i do like playing games (mostly FPS's) but i figure it should be ok
also, what exactly is the hypermemory
i know it means using your RAM, but does it have any onboard memory at all?
the dell website doesn't say much, and i can't find specs on ati.com (as there are several different versions)
can anyone clarify
thanks

The x1400 is basically the current x600/6400 Go, but a bit more powerful. It's a budget mainstream card.
Hypermemory is indeed the GPU siphoning RAM from your RAM to add onto its video memory. -
from what i've read, it's 128mb on board, with optional 128mb taken from RAM
still though, does anyone know of any benchmarks of this card? -
Yes, that is correct. The X1400 is 128MB's dedicated, then 128MB's (Optional) is taken from the ram. The X1400 is inbetween the X600 (6400) and the X700 (6600). This X1400 will run most newer FPS's at medium - high settings just fine. After the $300 off coupon and dell preffered card discount, and $35 off $300 code you can get the E1505 with the X1400 for around $750. This is a steal! GO FOR IT!

The X1400 actually has a completely different architecture than the X600, so it's not the same. The memory controller is entirely different, much improved.
It's a mainstream card as coriolis said . . you'll get decent but not great performance. It is not as powerful as an X700 or Go6600.
E1505 is a steal indeed @ $750. If you want a better machine, you'll have to spend quite a bit more.

How about OCing, how much can you squeeze out of it? Are there ways to optimize it's performance in 3ds max and alike?
-
Does the x1600 use hypermemory as well?

and I must say I'm very pleased
. I'm a hard core pc gamer and very picky about my systems. I ran 3dMark2001 and got 9,750!
...doubling my daughters score of 4,700 with an AMD 64 3200 and nvidia FX5200. I'm running it with the t2300 duo core at 1.6 and 512 ram. I installed Madden 06 and took it to work and all my co-workers were freaking at how smooth and beautiful it looks. I turned up the AA and AF to 4x each and it did not affect the gameplay in Madden at all. We're starting a Madden league and will be doing the fantasy draft on this lappy in a sports bar. Also installed Day of Defeat and it ran perfect. Still loading DoD Source and CS: Source from Steam. Get the larger hard drive cause I'm at 14 gigs free and its only day two!! I imagine I'll get an external hard drive soon and also a TV tuner so I can impress the Mrs by recording her shows via DVD rather than tapes.

I did a number of tests on an e1505 x1400 and the best 3dmark 2005 score I could achieve was 1808 with stock drivers, might squeeze 2k out of it with a clean install and all the bloatware Dell installs removed. I removed what I could but theres alot there.

so chaz, is it better to go for X700 rather than a X1400 for playing latest games with atleast a medium setting environment,,

I would go with the X700 given a choice, but it normally appears in the Centrino Pentium M-based systems while the new X1400 is often paried with the Core Duo . . you'll have to weigh your options. With the Core Duo + X1400, you've got better overall performance and multitasking with less 3D performance, while with the X700 + Pentium M you're using an older but proven technology, which will deliver less overall performance especially in the area of multitasking, but with better 3D performance. . . I'd suggest setting up a Spreadsheet where you can compare every aspect and feature of the notebook(s) you're looking at - just keep adding laptops you're interested in to it. It's easier to see the difference and advantages/disadvantages of each when compared to the others.
Rambling . .

The x1400 I've come to decide, is more than capable of playing dang near any game you throw at it. Ive no complaints, and managed to break 2k in 3dmark 05 with a simple driver update and a light OC to 460/435

I just got the dell e1705 laptop with the 17 inch, 256 mb ati hypermemory, 1gig ram, t2500 duo at 2ghz....Will this be able to run wow, wc3, and CS pretty flawless? and is there anything i can install/change to tweak it a little bit?
-
I was just wondering is the X1400 factory set to use the system RAM to up its performance from 128MB to 256MB?

My Acer Aspire 5672 is factory set to allocate 384MB of system memory to total 512MB.

Hi sorry to steal the post, but...
I just bought a fujitsu-siemens pi1536, dual core 1.83 etc etc...with an ati x1400. This particular one allows 512 megs of system memory, so as a result I decided to go for 2 gigs of ram to be safe, but I don't really know much about this graphics card. I can't change the memory settings of the card (if there are any) in the bios, so what do I do? Most of the games I have say it's only got 128 megs in the compatibility settings.
Please fogive me, I'm still a n00b as far as it goes with graphics. -
i can play COH on med-high settings 25-30fps, CSS on high settings 60+fps..
3dmark05 = 1975 @ stock clocks with 6-9-mobile_xp_dd_ccc_enu_35779 drivers..
I did a clean install when i got mine.. -
I scored 1000,1002,1002 on the 3dmark06 test for the x1400 with stock drivers,I'm not a BIG gamer, but do play a few sports games. And still want to upgrade the card.
-
I score 2005 on my 6400 w/X1400. That's on stock clocks (because no program seems to support OC'ing it properly yet) and the new Catalyst 6.9 drivers. I also score 1018 on 06 at the same specs.
A clean install really does make quite a difference to the performance of this machine
Now, if only ATi had some decent *nix drivers... -
i had the 1400 put in a laptop, i dont play pc games really but i just want a fast multitasking computer. It should be good for non gaming right?

Wow, you had dredged up a half a year old thread. I think you would have been justified just to start a new thread.
In any case, I don't see how your choice of GPU has to do with your non-gaming and multitasking performance. If that is you priority, then you should concern yourself with a good dual core CPU like a Core 2 Duo, plenty of RAM, and a large hard drive spinning at least at 5400rpm. -
I'm with ITcommander. I can basically play anything on my 2giged 7200rpm thinkpad with ati's x1400. I just play on low/medium settings.
-
It'll play pretty much anything with mine (2 gigged+7,200, similar setup as above), but I've had lots and lots of graphical errors and driver problems, although I have a feeling this is due to me frying my card by trying to overclock it (overclock shared memory = ouch for some reason), so I'm gonna upgrade as my laptop's using mxm.
Should be fine, even if you are going to do a bit of gaming.

ok thanks, i was just wondering if its a decent card to maybe do a bit of gaming. But i stick to xbox 360 for that so im not concerned. I just figured i should avoid the integrated intel accelerator or w/e and get this for nice visuals. Also one non video card question, i got a 200gb 4200rpm since it was the biggest. they had smaller ones at 5200 or higher rpm but if i just want a lot of space and no video editing then is 4200rpm fine for storing lots of music, movies etc?
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
If you just want a lot of space then the 200GB was the best choice. Its 4200RPM rotation speed is slow but that is somewhat compensated for by the high platter density. It'll be fine.

@ bob_1117
The X700 is a desktop card
Also, my X1400 is better than my friends X1300 Pro in his desktop. And i do not have mine overclocked. We had the same settings on Counter Strike Source, and i got about 12 FPS more than he did. (Yes we were in the same room looking at the same thing. We did this at a LAN party.) So it is a matter of what games you plan to run. And in no way is this card budget, it cost me twice as much as the 945 GMA would have, and almost twice as much as the Xpress 200m would have. But you will have no problem running any games you want to...... yet -
X1400 blows, Its very dissapointing. Half life 2 is somewhat crawls, COH has to be played at lowest settings, and COH Opposing Fronts even at the lowest settings on big maps slows down. Really disappointing video card. The bench marks of the Demo on COH OF give this "great" But real world, this thing blows chunks.

Are you kidding me? This thread was revived again???

The information is severely dated in this thread, no one is even asking about this card anymore. With that said, I'll put it out of its misery.
how good is ati x1400 hypermemory. any benchmarks?
