I bought the space marine retail dvd but I left my external dvd player in my province, and won't be going back for 2 weeks.

The game is a steam game and I know there is a way to install it without the dvd. However I've also heard some issues from people trying to install a retail game without the dvd.

So before I proceed, Id like to ask you guys the correct way to go about this installation.

If you have the CD key, try to enter it in Steam. Most games are not supported like this but go to Add Game\Activate a Product on Steam in the library.

Will this work even if the game is not yet installed?
I seem to recall a thread wherein the op tried to activate his retail copy that way and it didn't work. When he finally got around to installing his dvds the serials had already been blocked.
This is what I'm trying to avoid

Activating the serial will allow you to install the game regardless of the actual disk, assuming Space Marine is a Steamworks game (I have no idea whether it is).

The only times I've heard of retail keys being blocked from activation on Steam is if they were previously activated on a different account, or in some cases if they come from an illegitimate source (e.g. those Russian key shops that give you Steam activation keys for significantly cheaper than normal retail or Steam pricing).
