So I am just now getting around to OCing my 460m in my g53sw machine. I read a VERY long thread about this topic. The thread was too long and old and sometimes off topic to know exactly what I should do in order to OC this machine. Especially now in 2013 with the newer drivers and stock vbios settings.

Is there anybody out there who is still OCing this same GPU today, and could give me their wisdom and knowledge? Please?! what combo of drivers and vbios (and any other tweaks) are giving you the best results?

Even if you were last messing with this GPU in 2012, I would still be insterested to hear the last stuff you were doing when OCing it? Were you ever/still using the 1V vbios mod? If so, was that working well with your lastest drivers? the more recent posters on the forum seemed to be having trouble with the 1V mod working with the lastest drivers.

I really want to get my machine gaming as fast as it can, and hopefully leave it there and not have to mess with it much anymore. Possibly leave it on some older drivers that work best with the 1V mod. If nobody answers, obviously I will just start the guess and check process... but I was hoping to get an idea of where to start. (not spend time re-inventing the wheel)

If you can overvolt, do it. :)

    Oh and, use MSi afterburner

what the heck? did this guy just get banned for that post? what did he post? was he making fun of me or something? I'm sure I wouldn't have even understood his joke because I don't really use these forums very often so I don't know the inside jokes and stuff.

Maybe my thread is stupid? Either way, I really was hoping to find somebody who was currently OCing this GPU and getting good performance with the latest games. I'm sure there has to be somebody out there who is getting this same machine to play the latest games with 30fps in at least 720p.

nothing like that bro, he just wrote "Banned" to his status in user profile.

I had 460m back 2 years ago, but mine didn't OC well (it was 85C on stock clocks :)) so I have no idea, you can just go msi afterburner on it, give it a try :)

I think my machine is actually about 85C on stock clocks. I ran a unigine valley benchmark (which shows temp) and it was about 85C the whole time on stock clocks. Does that mean that my GPU is not going to overclock well? I used nvidia inspector to and was able to OC by about 25Mhz. That seems pretty weak. I heard of some people who overvolted and overclocked, and tweaked drivers, and actually ended up with no temp increase, but a 10-15 FPS increase. Does that sound like BS? I swear some people posted that on this other forum that I read.

What is a temp that is too high? 90C? I thought I heard somebody say that you could go to 100C safely.

When i used the 460m(i have it now)i was able to oc at 820/1800.
    Very nice oc abilitys..... :)
The performance was like a 6970m stock.
I was playing bf3 multy 1920x1080 high at 30-35fps.very nice card.
I have it as back up :D

Did you overvolt it in order to get those clock speeds?
Did you have your drivers configured a certain way to boost performance?

No on stock volt, and it was as regular way, nothing more :)
    Nice card.
That clocks are just me,some others cards may not go up as mine.

I have a Medion Erazer x6811 i7 with a 460m and have played about with MSi Afterburner. Have overclocked the card to core clock 805 and memory clock 1400 with no problems and haven't gone above 76 degrees. The erazer series (A re-badged MSi gx660/gt660) has quite good cooling though and this may explain why your temps are a little higher? Never had it crash on me and has given me 3-10 fps more in most games, including BF3 and Hitman Absolution. Far Cry 3 can still be choppy on high - ultra settings at 1080p.

3Dmark scores non OC - 1230 and OC - 1230 so no real visible difference using that benchmark!

In the process of upgrading to a 670mx, be interesting to see difference

As with any card, especially an older one, if you're going to overclock, open your machine up, repaste, air blast out the dust bunnies, and you'll likely see significant temp drops. I'd do that before attempting any overclock especially if your peak temps are 85C already.

How to check for artificials? Ive had the card for 2 years using 835/1600 but I feel like clocking a little more the memory. Also I recall having max of 1650 in afterburner, so how did one of you get 1800? clevo p150hm

I agree. Also try raising up the back end of your laptop. My 460m usually ran 780/1500 and I could maybe push 3dmark11 of 2400 on stock voltage. I tried to up the voltage but the increased temps didn't justify the 1-2% increase in my opinion. Unfortunately my G53SW couldn't cool it that well so I'd see temps of 86-87 C.

It was a great little card.

You would notice if you saw them--they appear like patterns blocks lines that are mis-colored or out of place. If you see them, I recommend lowering your clocks immediately as they can lead to damage.

In the Asus Gaming forum there is a post called something like "Modified overvolting of the 460m."

But in short, you will need a custom vbios and a fat32 flash drive, along with nvflash.

Personally I will not recommend it. There is not much too gain over 840/1500 which is doable at stock voltage. All you will gain is heat.
