I just got my new laptop but it still has the old drivers for the standard VGA drivers. I downloaded the new drivers from nvidia, and installed the new drivers and gone through the setup and clicked finish, but when I go back to device manager it still shows the standard vga drivers?

Did you uninstall your old driver and then wipe them through driversweeper before installing your new drivers?

    start again.
reboot into safe mode. device manager>uninstall drivers. tick the "remove driver software box" as well, else they will reinstall as soon as you reboot.
go to add/remove programs. remove physX and nvidia drivers (if present)
run driver sweeper, removing nvidia display and physX. run it again exactly the same to remove stuck folders.
    reboot to normal
vista will now reinstall standard VGA. its unavoidable, but causes no conflicts.
once that is done, install the nvidia 186.03 drivers.

    hopefully that should work.
