Was just wondering how this video card would do with most games (warcraft 3, wow, eyc. Looking for a notebook for school so gaming is not 1st priority) thanks
256MB ATI Mobility FireGL V5200

thinkpad t60 or hp nw8440? anyway, it is based off the x1600, so it should perform a little worse than that, considering it isn't optimized for gaming. anyway, it will run wow well.
-
thinkpad t60... its for school (business program) suggest anything else for around $2000-$2300? I just liked the idea of the thinkpad because of the amount of typing i'd do thanks
-
the thinkpad is incredibly well built. you can't beat it. but there is the hp nw8440 or hp nc8430 for something similar...
-
You won't be able to play WoW with that card. The FireGL card is not supported by WoW and therefore won't install on your laptop.
-
Really? Can you not mod the drivers, and make it act like an X1600?
-
Not sure if that is possible. Has anyone tried doing this?
-
WoW will run on a fireGL. But as stated above the FireGL is a workstation card. Its not optomised for gaming. But being based off the x1600 it'll run games pretty well, but not as well as its gaming optomised cousin.
-
this is really a programmer card which is not optimized for gaming.
-
Although its not meant for gaming, will it outperform the ATI X1400 ?
Anyone have issues on the FireGL 5200 for gaming?
I'd like a powerful computer for work but I also like to play games occassionally (mostly RTS and other strategy games). -
yea i have pretty much the same question as jagged...is it better than the x1400? Will it run most games? (hopefully cs, wc3 hl2, etc)

I can play the top rts games with my ati radeon express 200m. Its the best intgrated card , yet it is still integarted. RTS games usually dont have much demand on video. What I have played on my lappy: AOE3, empire earth2, stronghold2, age of mythology, etc. All these load fast and play well, I cant tell the difference on this or the sff, except for the size difference( 19in lcd vs. 12in widescreen.)
hows this video card for gaming (not hardcore)
