so in the past 12 months.. ive played and beaten:

    COD4
    COD5
    Crysis
    Crysis Warhead
    Bioshock
    Half Life 2
    HL EP1
    HL EP2
    FEAR
    FEAR E.P.
    FEAR P.M.
    FEAR2
    DOOM3

i think thats it.. but i could be mistaken and missin a few..
as you can see i like FPS =)
but im in a rut and need a new one to play..

i have fallout 3 and dead space and mass effect .. but i dont really qualify those games as a FPS..

So Please... any suggestions for a great FPS not on the list would be greatly appriciated!

    THANK YOU!

And requires you to drive about 90% of the time, I was so let down by this game. Seems people either love or hate Farcry 2.

    @OP
I picked up the Penumbra Collector Pack off of the Steam Weekend Deal last week. It's not truly a FPS, but it's first person. FPS is my genre of choice, and it's a cool game so far, scary as hell though. Might want to check it out.

More like, 35% of the time, if you use Bus Stations that is, there is a good site dedicated to Open World games, and it has plenty of users and a lot of fun things to do in Far Cry 2.

    Open World Games.

There's not too much more in the recent games. How about some good old school games?

    COD1
    COD2
    Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
The Operative: No One Lives Forever
    No One Lives Forever 2
    Unreal Tournament/2004
    Quake 4

i actually have left 4 dead but play it as an onlime multiplayer game..

i was hoping for more of a great solo play FPS in the likes of Bioshock and crysis in terms of originality/story..

but in more recent days i think ive played the best of the best..
maybe ill look into some old skool FPS ;)

i just cant wait till Bioshock 2 and crysis 2 come out..
    november is it?

oh well... old skool and RPGs/RTSs it is till then....

    How about:
    Wolfenstein
    Doom
    Hectic
    Star Wars: Dark Forces

Those are uber old school haha :D

Second S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky, probably one of the best I have played.

Here is some pics in an album if you want to check it out first:

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky Album

I also second Chronicles of Riddick, amazing game, and when you get Assault on Dark Athena you also get Escape From Butcher's Bay redone in new graphics. XD

    Chronicles of Riddick Album

Also there is Cryostasis it's a different FPS, kind of a horror mystery takes place on a derelict icebreaker in the Arctic.

    Cryostasis Album

I am currently playing NecroVision which is also really good, it's a occult horror FPS takes place in the trenches during WWI. It really takes a turn for the bizarre about halfway through, anyway I am really liking it.

    NecroVision Album

I admit I was pretty let down by Far Cry 2. Its severely dumbed down for consoles, but after using it to test Windows 7 RC 1, I found it can be quite enjoyable if you can get past the console feel of it.

Here is some pics from Far Cry 2, in Windows 7, sorry no album, when I uploaded they all went to the wrong main album. :(

    Far Cry 2
    Far Cry 2
    Far Cry 2
    Far Cry 2
    Far Cry 2
    Far Cry 2
    Far Cry 2

Give Far Cry 2 a chance, or 3 or 4 like I had to and underneath all the console crap is an alright game that is worth playing.

All these great PC FPS but still no word of the xbox clasic?

Halo, the original. It couldn't have been a bad PC port... play it if you haven't!

Also, FC1 > FC2. It's from the Doom 3 era, but still a great game.

Halo on the PC > Halo on the Xbox

just required some monster hardware at the time (~ ati 9800 pro!!!)

excellent game, pretty old though. still has a pretty big multiplayer following.

Halo for PC is much better than the Xbox version, and is extremely moddable. Plus, it looks way better than the Xbox version if your monitor goes higher than 640x480. :p
Gears is an excellent game, you should get it for Windows.

For my two cents, I recommend Unreal II: The Awakening. It's an awesome single player game. If you want to go a bit more old school, you can try the original Unreal Gold. In fact, on Steam you can get ALL the Unreal games ever released for just $40.

Also, you might like Medal of Honor: Airborne. It's the most recent game in the MoH franchise, and it's pretty fun to play. The upgradeable weapon aspect is particularly neat.

    Team Fortress 2!

Battlefield Heroes isn't quite as funny, but it's still more cartoony and casual. The Serious Sam games would probably fit that bill as well.

Quoted for truth, if you've missed these two you've missed 2 of the best. Also what about some old school, checkout painkiller. It was suprisingly good and one of the best FPSes a few years back.

HL2: Lost Coast was supposed to be another part of the Highway 17 section in the original HL. Finally they used it as a demo with commentaries from the Valve team dispersed on the level. You can play it, but it is just a small scene. Actually it is better as a benchmark tool.

Bioshock is more an FPS than an RPG, really. RPG-lite, at best. Extremely limited choice as far as the storyline is concerned, and little real customisation of your character.

Team Fortress 2 is multiplayer-only, correct. And it's pretty much the most fun I've ever had in a multiplayer game.
As lozanogo said, it's basically nothing more than a little tech demo from Valve to show off HDR lighting and some other fancy new visuals. It really doesn't have much of anything to do with the plot of the Half-Life series.

    Original IPs
GUN (a bit glitchy and repetitive, but a different FPS environment)
Prey (I guess I was one of the few who liked Prey...I was hooked when I heard 'Don't Fear the Reaper' coming from the jukebox...come to think of it, I probably liked the idea [cutscenes] better than the gameplay)

    Licensed properties
    Aliens vs Predator 2
    Star Trek: Elite Force
Star Wars: Republic Commando (Then there's Outcast, Jedi Academy, etc...I thought Republic Commando was the best FPS in the Star Wars universe)

    Funny FPSs (for Phil)
No One Lives Forever 1 and 2
Shadow Warrior (Same engine as Duke Nukem 3D...I think it got somewhat banned due to offensive Asian stereotyping...)
Serious Sam series (someone already mentioned this one)

    Really old FPS worth playing
    Deus Ex
    System Shock 2
Skynet and Future Shock (skip the Terminator Salvation game and try these under DosBox...from the developer/publisher who brought you Oblivion and Fallout 3...but don't expect that sophistication from a mid-90's game...I believe these were the first FPS that were truly 3D and had mouse look...Quake may have beat them, but I don't think so)
    Undying

Most of the others I would have mentioned have already been mentioned...
