I have a Lenovo y570. It has a GT555 and currently a i3 2310m. I was wondering, what kind of performance differences are there from a i5 2410m in games like BFBC2, STALKER, and WoW?

I don't know the performance differences in games, but in Passmark:

    2310m: 2560
    2410m: 3358

In my opinion, the games you listed should run great on the 2310m, but if the upgrade to a 2410m is cheap I'd get it.

Yeah, well i'm kinda slapping myself for not spending an extra 50$ on the i5. Turbo boost sounds nice. I wonder if I could buy an i5 and sell the i3 for the difference? lol

That's what I would do, if I felt like I needed for than the i3.

why not? you should have no problem selling the i3 on ebay to recoup some of the cost.

The 2310m is worth around $140, the 2410m costs about $160.

    On eBay.

Pretty much the same, except a lot longer dissemble time.

Can get a ES i7-2920XM 2.4 for $290 for quad-core goodness. Also can do a DIY eGPU via the mPCIe slot. A GTX460-1GB setup can be had for ~$215 and will outbench the Y570's gimped GT555M.

Here is a performance review of Sandy bridge processors paired with a GT 540m:

    BFBC2:

The difference is close to nothing, so I would save the money as it won't make a real difference. The application performance of the i3 should be good as well.

For those who are interested here is a Sandy Bridge review paired with a GTX 560m. The difference is minimal here as well, so unless you need extreme computing power, again save your money :)

Chances are you won't be bottlenecked by the CPU in games. The i5-2410M isn't all that much faster than the i3-2310M.

If you do decide to upgrade the CPU, be careful NOT to buy an ES (Engineering Sample). They are not finalized products; they are unpredictable/unreliable, some of them produce a lot more heat due to increased voltage, some are missing features, and there's absolutely no warranty on them.

you would be giving up all portability for a very slight increase in GPU power at best.
