What!?!?!?!?!
What laptop do you have and how do you know it has an upgradable video card?
I hope you didn't buy a desktop video card to put in your notebook!
No, idea what the black rubber stuff is. -
I hope that your notebook is compatible with the go 6800. I'm guessing you checked on that before buying a new GPU and taking your old one out.

ok the laptop i have is a fujitsu siemens m3438g and yes the gfx card can be changed on it. as i said the bits of rubber are just small black bits a rubber or seem to be and they sat between the gfx card and the heat sink that went over the top of the gfx card i am tryin to find out what they are and if they are needed
again hope u can help thx -
Yes, the M3438G does have removeable and replaceable graphics. The rubber is to prevent the contacts on the rear of the graphics card to make contat with the motherboard. You don't have to replace it with the same thing, just something that can resist heat, and is unconductive to electricity.

ok that is great thx alot

Actually if it was in between the heatsink and the card they were thermal pads and I'm not sure if that is replaceable with just anything. Give Ice Tea a buzz (or a PM) since he runs a site thats all about doing the kind of thing you are he may be able to point you in the right direction.

its black, Grey or white color?
I know if it is grey or white they its the cooling gel which you can go and buy in best buy -
Get a Normal Eraser and Chop It To the right size that could work?? Just Make Sure It Aint gunna move and touch the mother board!!!!

Better get the gpu thermal pads fixed, else here's what's going to happen to that laptop:

they are black so i take it they are just to stop contact between the heatsink and the gfx card. again i thank you all for ur help
-
Ok hope you are sure about this. It is extremely important that the space between the processor chip and the heatsink be filled with either thermal paste or thermal pads. I would call up the Fujitsu guys just to be sure too. If the contact is not made correctly, and you just stick some random material in there, that tiny 2 cm by 2 cm space will heat up to some incredibly hot temperature in the blink of an eye and possibly start a fire.

I have attached a picture below. You can see the Go 6800 card on it. Now, if the black rubber part is the thing you are inquiring about, then that is a rubber strip that is there to stop any electrical contact between the card and the motherboard. You may see these under RAM slots, because of the close proximity if the contects of the modules and the motherboard. The other white pad on the actual core of the card, is a thermal pad. They are available from any good computer store. They brigde the gap between the aluminium of the heatsink and the core of the card. They are there to move the heat from the core to the metal.

it is the black rubber i hve i still have the piece that goes under the card to stop contact with the motherboard i am missing the bits that go ontop of the card that sit between the top of the gfx card and the heatsink
what card they called
thx
is there away u can show me a pic of where i am supposed to stick these on the card as i have forgot -
Yes, those white pads are called thermal pads. They canot be replaced with paste, as the clearance from the aluminium plate is too great from from the core, for efficient heat transfer. You should be able to purchase some from a good computer store. I don't know which country you live in, so I cannot link a page that will show you where to buy some of these.
I have outlined in the image below where these thermal pads need to go. They go both on the core and the memory chips. You also need one on a small cuboid shaped object at the rear of the card. I think it is a voltage regulator, however, I am not sure of this. Hope this helps.Attached Files:
