if you have 2 systems that are identicle except for videocard (intel gpu vs nvidia/ati gpu), is battery life expected to differ at all if you are only doing 2d stuff like internet browsing or office apps?

if there is a difference, does anyone have any numbers? (i.e. intel laptop would last 3hr20min vs nvidia laptop last 3hr)

even though dedicated graphics cards power themselves down (nVidia PowerMizer/ATI PowerPlay), they still use more power than an integrated graphics card so the figure might look something like this (all other factors remain same)-------:
    nVidia geforce 8400M GS--------3hrs
    nVidia GeForce 8400M GT-------2.8hrs
    nVidia GeForce 8600M GS-------2.5 hrs
    nVidia geforce 8600M GT--------2.25 hrs
    Intel GMA 950------------------5 hrs
    Intel GMA x3100----------------4.5hrs

(NOTE---THESE ARE NOT ACTUAL TIMES/MEASUREMENTS AND ARE NOT TO SCALE...)

~2hrs would be a lot more.

anyone have any actual numbers/benchmarks? no review site has ever tested this?

If you aren't playing games or doing any 3D design work or heavy duty CAD work then why would you get a dedicated GPU? Intel's newest integrated GPU, the x3100, is a huge improvement over their last and should be available on all santa rosa platform notebooks without dedicated GPUs. So I recommend you get one with that.

Yes, why the heck aren't there any actual numbers/benchmarks out there that compare the two on an actual system? I have seen some retarded benchmarks....but something as important as this has never been benchmarked? COME ON

It would be about 15-30 minutes depending on the other hardware and sofware in the system.

again, wish someone could do a simple battery rundown with a DVD on two of the same M1330's and a simple idle test with all the radios on and another with all the radio's off. 3 tiny benchmarks to tell the world HUGE things.

i think this would seriously be a HUGE thing in the notebook computing world. I know if i ever saw an article that was that solid on engadget i would jump to read it. Something so simple, yet no one has done it. Kills me!
