    hello,

i just bought a new dell inpsiron 640m. it has the intel 945GM chipset to run the graphics with has the 950 gma - i believe.

my question is, and please bear with me i'm not great on these things, will it do open gl? i'm trying to run digital fusion on my machine and these needs open gl to run and i can't get the bloody thing to run on my laptop.

i've also been running lma manager on it and it will only do the lwest graphics setting and seems to run very slowly.

is this a driver issue or am i just gonna have to live with it because of the chipset i have?

the laptop is running vista home premium if that makes a difference at all.

any help will be muchly appriciated.

    cheers

    ben

This should probably be in the Graphics forum.

But yes, you will pretty much have to deal with slow OpenGL on a 945GM. It's not a very fast graphics chip. I don't know why "Digital Fusion" won't run, as the chip should be perfectly OpenGL compatible, but it may be Vista that's causing the issue. I know Microsoft is trying their darndest to get rid of OpenGL. What is Digital Fusion? All search results I see don't have anything that looks like installable software.

I went ahead and moved this to the graphics forums for you.

I wouldn't expect too much from the GMA950 card ever...it is a solid underperformer for graphics-related programs.

It could be a Vista related issue, so if you have a spare copy of XP you might want to try installing it, but my hunch is the card is the problem. Unfortunately, you cannot upgrade the graphics card.
