as the title implies, i just got a dell gtx 680m to replace my 7970m and was wondering if using MSI afterburner to OC it to 895/2205 was ok. No voltage change obviously cuz u cant but 895 is all the farther the slider goes for the core and i just did 2205 mem cuz i didnt want to over do it. just wondering if its safe. dont want to brick my card for such a slight OC.

Just monitor your temps and you should be fine. You have an Alienware, so I don't think temperatures are going to be an issue, but just saying.

It is as long as you can use it without seeing any artifacts AND keeping your temps within the limit. Many times it is the fact that your system cannot handle that high overclock than the fact that the GPU heats up.

Why can't you? Is it not possible on the 680m?

25% is by no means a "slight" overclock.

Overclocking to those speeds will cause throttling. It almost makes overclocking pointless on the dell cards.

To maverick, i played games and ran benchmarks with no exess heat or artifacting, which i was surprised about. Using MSI afterburner only I Dont have the option to OV the card. And i dont think i've found any good Vbios for the Dell version of the card to flash for OV'ing. and i spose i was a underplaying the OC i did a bit, but i guess i was more thinking of all the ppl that have flashed the clevo cards Vbios and jacked the clocks to high heaven as my comparison.

To Eldaren, I've ran games and benchmarks and did not have any crazy throttling, i scored 6150 or something stock and 6900 or something OC'd. I spose i should do a bit more before i get cocky but for now it seems to work perfectly. and temps have been great. A max of 65c i believe before fan kicks on and cools it down to 62c.

If anyone else has done what i've done, i would love to hear your experiences on stability and temps.

How do you get it to 895 core with MSI Afterburner? The slider all the way over on mine only gets it up to 854 core. This is according to GPU-Z.

What custom vBIOS did you use? The one from Techinfeno?
