A laptop with that kind of power will definitely not have a problem playing WoW - check your video card settings. I don't have an Nvidia card, but I believe you go Desktop Properites - Settings tab - Advanced. Look for PowerMizer, and set it to Optimal Performance when plugged in. Yours might be on a power saving setting, which would explain the low framerates. Are you sure about that 1FPS by the way?

What driver versions are you using? I recently tried 93.71 from laptopvideo2go and xtreme-g mobileforce 97.44, and got the same issue with dropped fps when playing Oblivion. I am going to revert back to 84.63 tonight and see if the drivers are the cause. Otherwise, like Chaz said, just go into Powermizer and turn off the powersaving feature, it will clock your GPU to its 3D performance mode all the time (do this only when on AC power).

I agree. That setting made all the difference for me. Also, the box that says "Use less power to drive the display" or something like that, will really kill your performance too. I'm using stock drivers  They work pretty well for me.

    i installed 97.44 from laptopvideo2go..
its weird cuz last nite and this morning i was getting 60fps.. but now i haven't touched a thing, and im gettin like 1-10fps...
and i don't see the powermizer option...
is there a way i can check if my laptop is just a defect or so??
i don't have a clue when it comes to laptops or comps, i just thought this laptop would satisfy my needs for wow...

right click on desktop, properties, settings, advanced, 7900gs tab, look on the left of the box that comes up for powermizer.

what resolution are you playing at? 1920X1200?

Version 84.63 (you can get from nvidia.com) seems to be the best, no problems so far for me in dropping fps. Version 97.44 was meant for the new 8800 cards and they are having many issues with artifacts and anomalies on screen, I saw texture lines across my screen when playing Oblivion and seems to happen alot near trees and grass. I would avoid that driver version.

right click on your desktop, you should see the option of powermizer, it should be the 2nd to last on the box, right above properties. You can also find it in the Nvidia Control Panel

its seems to work ok, mid 30's.. but the thing is it drops from 30 to 8 in no time..
and it doesn't seem to make a difference when i run maxed out settings
compared to turning it down.. thanks guys for tryin to help...

how can i run 3d benchmark?? i wanna see if its my comp or maybe its just wow??

Could it be auto-yhrottling back due to over-heating? I'm not really up on go 7900, just a thought...

That should not be the case with this card. It idles hot, but doesn't get much warmer even at full load (unless you overclock). Slow protect for this card is at 108C. My overclocked 7900GS doesn't go over 90 even under the harshest conditions

For 3D benchmark, you can use 3dmark05 or 3dmark06, I would recommend 06 because it uses HDR and SM3.
I also suggest installing either i8kfangui or i9kfangui to monitor your GPU temps, just to be sure it's not your 7900 getting too hot.
Sorry that our suggestions haven't solved your performance issues.

It sounds like it maybe a heat issue. I would definitely check temps... Both gpu and cpu. It maybe the heatsink is not properly attached to the gpu/cpu.

You seem to get reasonable frame rates to begin with then drops off to almost nothing.

Are those temps idle or when pushed?

Unlikely to help but give it a try: Check the max temperature reached while playing games.
