i installed kotor 2 earlier today and when i went to play it it would crash as soon as it started

when i did the hardware scan it said that my video card drivers were out of date and that i need the detonator 45.23 driver
i tried reinstalling both the game and the driver and when that didnt work i just found the newest driver i could but it still says its out of date

    can anyone help me?

Which driver are you currently using for your GPU? Are you attempting to use the much dated Detonator 45.23 driver? I would imagine you are not, but please clarify which specific driver currently in use.

This may be an issue relating to the game's ability to determine the forceware version of the driver. At the time, all drivers were less than three digits, so the game engine may be misinterpreting the value for the detonator version.

Have you attempted to install the latest patches as well?

Edit: Please see this thread for some help on running in Windows 7.

What OS are you on? Both KoTOR games are a pain to get running on Vista and 7.

Yes... Good god, When I had Vista and tried to get KOTOR to run... it was easier to learn quantum physics....

Not really, but it was difficult

Agreed, getting KOTOR 1/2 running on W7 or Vista is pain in buns. Its not your driver, but I believe the link Jakeworld posted will contain a dll file or a patch of sorts that will help it run.

Also, if I recall, when I installed it I ran the setup.exe on the cd in compatability mode for XP, and then did the same with the games .exe, and it worked.

Make sure that your screen refresh rate is set to 60Hz.

I eventually got KoTOR 2 to work after reading all sorts of fixes and work-arounds and advice from others trying to install it, but I could NEVER...EVER get the first game to run. Anyone know of a guide or something that's pretty much guaranteed to work? Do you think it would work if I ran it in XP mode?
