Just finished a quick normal run single player, so my first impressions:
Have to give it two thumbs up - the daylight factor, gore level are top on my list of +'s over L4D.

Love the fact that those SWAT zombies have body armor on... harder to take down.

One thing I noticed is that the demo didn't benefit from SLI - probably just need to tweak my settings but 1 GPU was doing all the work according to HWMonitor's temp reporting.

Will be ordering this one for sure.

 

I still have to update it.... which is going to take another hour at least, great.

edit: OMG it finished at 20% and now i can play!!

Is there a reason that I can only pre load it? I thought this was the public demo release not the pre order one....

Ergh this game makes me angry...I'm getting bored of the concept really. I think Valve is trying to hurry a game out before zombie fad dies off. The jockey is dead useless..

 

Yeh but the charger is pretty cool. He charged me half way across the map seperating me from the rest. Theres nobody to play online with though

The Jockey isn't useless, he's good for separating one survivor and leading them into traps, particularly Boomers, Spitter acid, and Witches.

I am a huge Zombie movie fan, I have watched them all! lets see how well this game performs for me!

 

Maybe its just me, but I dont seem to be able to shoot any body parts off =_=!!!

Wow, the weirdest thing happened i played to the second level and all of a sudden my notebook monitor shut off and the computer wasnt responding. I never had that happen to me before, VERY weird.

 

check the gateway forum dragon. I played this fine on mine.

 

The CPU really boosted it

 

Mine runs great with 4AA but I can not shoot off body parts.!!

 

Hmm...I've been able to shoot off arms and heads and even legs so far???

 

I like it its a very nice improvement over left 4 dead. also, it runs better and at higher settings which is odd to me not that im complaining (2x aa @ 1200 x 800 w/ high settings on l4d2 vs the same w/ med settings on l4d1)

I liked the part in Chapter 2 of the Parish where you run around the fences in a back and forth way, it wasn't anything crazy but for some reason was extremely entertaining.

 

Yea this ran smoother than l4d, I was surprise by it. It felt like l4d was a well put beta for this game. I wish they thought of this one first. Also, I am going to miss the characters from l4d one, they should make it where we can choose those guys.

 

no, they should make add on campains where there are 8 survivors, including the old ones. (like extremely super intense ones)

anywho anyone else getting controller lag? my mouse seems to not respond occasionally on this game or my keyboard makes me continue forward when i dont want it too.

 

Are you in Australia or Germany? In those countries, the game has been heavily censored in order to attain classification, including complete disabling of all gore, dismemberment, and corpses.

 

I played the Campaign in single player real quick to see how it is, and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. Sure, it's more refined than L4D, but it's still fundamentally so similar, I don't see how I can justify spending $45 for it.

I was expecting better graphics than L4D, but honestly they seem almost worse in L4D2 (with all settings at max). I don't know, maybe I'm just biased because I've been thinking negatively about L4D2 for a while, but it really doesn't seem like anything special over L4D.

looks like this weeks to buy list is gta: episodes from liberty city, i thoguht this demo was gonna stun me enuf to pre-purch. the game...aparently not.

the gfx seemed the same to me, same fps and everything, crash i think u are biased a lil, but nonetheless, it isnt really a a true sequel, only new guns/weapons, few new enemies, and ofc. a new single player mode...

At least start on advanced. I started it on Expert, since well, I'm an expert and the bots are good shots.

Mmm it's okay...Machete is fun for a little bit...I just feel like it is an expansion pack of L4D...Dunno if I'll buy it ever in all honesty, maybe if it is under $20 and still has a good community AND no other awesome games out (Borderlands is awesome fun right now)

I luved the demo. My game was pre-ordered long time ago. Soooo mcuh improvements over l4d1. new infected are gonna be a blast in versus. new weapons feel nice too. Melee weapons rock. Much better graphics and runs a bit better too. I can do WSXGA with 16QA AA and 16 Aniso Filtering. It just feels sooo much better then l4d1. Also the new gore system simply rocks!!!
Its not a completely new game and thats a good thing. When you have a formula that works, you dont want to rewrite it completely but tweak it a bit to make it even better and the result of that is l4d2!! There is soooo much new content here that I m struggling to see how they can have l4d3 without redesigning the whole idea of the game as l4d2 already packs pretty much everything. Go buy people!! support the last PC developer that cares about the PC audience!! buy this over MW2 thats only a 360 emulator!!! anyway this should have been an easy decision anyway.lol. $35/45 vs $60 !!!!

 

I found it fun, but definitely not good enough to warrant $45-$50 as I still have L4D(1). Probably will pick this up when Steam has their 50% deals on this.

 

To be fair...The game is good...However, I find myself enjoying Killing Floor more as a zombie survival game. I just didn't have the same fun playing l4d2 that I did playing Killing Floor.

Perks to the free weekend of Killing Floor...Convinced me to probably get the game soon!

 

Downloaded and played. It's entertaining, but not really my cup of tea. I'll pass.

Gah!! downloaded the Aussie version... Oh well, Not that bad w/o the gore, however If you edit a few files you can play with all of the gore in anyhow!!

The demo is decent, but not excitingly brilliant. Considering I only have the console version of l4d1 I may pick up l4d2 assuming that the Aus version gets patched or modded for the gore!
That or just import I guess?

Played the demo last night.
It's the same game with a different feel. Why can't they just add the melee weapons to the existing game? It doesn't feel new at all to me. I'd pay 20 bucks for this. It feels like an expansion. Not a new game.

When I came back, I played online with 4 people, which IMO is one of the sickest demo inclusions of all time

It was so much fun, max settings/no aa/1280x800 constant framerate in the 50s

I'll probably pick it up when its on sale
Right now, I'm looking for a deal on L4D

 

I would disagree, the jockey is great for pulling a survivor into more dangerous specials, it's like a short ranged smoker but with more control, I can't wait to play it on versus

Valve said they were gonna bring them back in some way, I'm not sure how... maybe seeing their corpses haha
