hi everyone.
I have a video display issue when I run a really old game and I don't know what exactly how to fix it.
this is the problem..

I assume it's my msi A6000 laptop GFX card's fault which is not very good but not very terrible. I am able to run Guilty Gear XX Reload just fine. I've tried to run on 256 color but no luck.
other than that, the game works fine. any suggestions to fix this? (if fixable..)

Try running it in 16 bit colour. That 8200M G is not very good, but it should be more than enough to power a game like that.
-
I have set it on 16 bit high color and it's the same, nothing changed. I still don't understand, is my card really incapable for that game?
-
-
my OS is win 7 32 bit.
-
is it just this game that has issues, also what driver version are you using?
-
driver version? what do you mean exactly? -
Here is a tutorial on how to upgrade your GPU drivers. You only need to find out what your GPU model is.
Windows 7 is a fairly recent OS. It might pay to try and run in XP compatibility mode, if possible. -
right click my computer click properties open device manager and right click display and click properties. It should say what graphics driver version you are using.
-
Press the "Windows" key, plus "R".
Type dxdiag into the box.
Go to the "Display" tab.
It should tell you in the top right corner, it should say driver version, and there will be a whole load of numbers.
Eg: 8.17.11.9562 (195.62) -
is it a dos game? you could make a bootable usb flash drive, put dos on it and maybe a mouse driver lol
-
my driver version is 8.15.11.8614 as it says.
so updating my GPU would solve the problem? not to sound to hasty, though. -

I meant not the guide, just the download links. shouldn't I get the drivers directly from the nvidia site? Furthermore, maybe the game is just way to old to run on win7 but I am still looking more into how to fixing my problem. -
What does the display tab tell you your card is? It should also say the card model, like GeForce 9600M GT, or Radeon HD 4500 series.
And the links are old, you just have to go to the manufacturers site now, they have signed drivers for the mobile cards. The process still applies though. -
I have tried updating and got this as a result. my card is nvidia gforce 8200M G

I guess it's tough luck for me. -
Download THESE drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_195.62_whql.html
It says 8200m G is supported.
You might have selected 8 series not 8m (mobile) series.
But before you update your drivers, this looks like an issue very similar to what I have with Starcraft. Try putting this code in a notepad document and save it as a .bat file (ie. colorfix.bat)
Code:taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe starcraft.exe Start explorer.exe
Run this bat file to start your game.
For some reason the desktop can cause issues with these older games, and closing the explorer task allows the game to set its own color scheme, and it starts back up when the game ends (Start explorer.exe). -
the code works! thank you
but is there a way how I can run the game without using the colorfix.bat?
as in patching the game .exe itself. -
Probably not. Only if you have the source code and recompile it. I have the same issue with Starcraft. I'm not sure exactly what the culprit is either. But as long as this works, I'm fine with it. Starcraft is eleven years old. I think I'm fine with it working with three versions of Windows later
-
there is an alternative way to fix this.
you open up the screen resolution window and leave it there. then relaunch the game and it's fixed! credit goes to this video

very odd but it works. I wish there was a way to just fix the issue head on rather than these methods. -
Yeah, that method doesn't work for me, unfortunately running that bat file is the only way. I agree there should be a better way, but running older games on a newer OS frequently ends in using workarounds.
