1- 2ms lag what does this mean and what will I notice.
1080p on my 15in laptop looks like tiny pixels showing on fine details like trees off in the distance in crysis. So will 1080p pc games look awful?
I read somewhere TVs scale better than monitors. Will 720p look decent to good on a 1080p tv.
If you have answers please post em. Thanks

1 - thats how much the image takes time to be displayed, by refreshing itself. A low value has better results for games such FPS or racing games, where you need almost an instant-image refreshing. Having an higher value introduces lag, which can be experienced as input lag. A value above 50ms means that if you move your character around, you will notice that on screen it takes a small fraction of time to reflect your action.
2 - Usually 1080p on big panels is fine, and mostly much more detailed than laptop or lcds because you have much more settings that you can adjust. A good quality panel/vendor makes gaming much better than laptop screen, thats for sure, giving it has a low response time (read above).
So if you observe tiny details very sharp on your lcd, youll do the same on a good tv - no need to downgrade the resolution, that will make things worse, althought most tvs dont have the "blurry" effect as laptops. 720p native games will look ok, even if the TV has an upscaler option. -
Thanks a lot.
I did some googling and read 720p from a computer on a 1080p tv will look fantastic vs doing the same on a monitor as TVs have more advanced upscaling downscaling capabilities.
Is this true...pretty exciting as ill be able to play all games at 720p in 3d and have it look good..that is if its true...sigh 3 more weeks till I find out... -

I had a 3d screen which was a 24" hooked to my desktop.
I can safely say that playing Crysis 2 in 3d via 3dtv play/3dvision hacked driver worked wonders.
Desktop panels or 3d TVs have a different way to display resolutions, so a 720p game looks as good as a game running in native. -
Very exciting.

Only thing tho is that the 3d hype wears out fast.
Some games don't cope too well with it, and those that are 3dvision rated seriously need a good panel.
Otherwise the crosstalk will kill your eyes.
As for enabling 3dvision via 3dtvplay (and it's exclusive features like on the fly tweaks) you need an hacked monitor driver.
Didn't had problems on my panel by using it, and it does wonders. -
Greetings all-
I am getting a Sager NP9150 next week and definitely plan on gaming on my TV. I already have an HDMI cable and am in the process of getting a PC-compatible Xbox controller and a gaming mouse. This way I can play PC-only games on the big screen and games that are cross platform (meaning available on the Xbox) will look much better through the laptop.
I'll post my impressions of how all that goes after I have some playing time in.

I play several games on my living room 1080p Sony Bravia. Looks great and plays great at either 1080p or 720 (depending on the game I choose one or the other for either performance or readability of text). My most often played recently is Skyrim with which I use a 360 controller.

You want to look into the new Samsung 27 inch HD 3D panel (top). I have an older version (bottom) and the ability for it to transfer 2D into 3D is outstanding with the included battery operated glasses it means that you get all the 3D benefit without any FPS drop and it works on ATI cards, colours contrast and brightness are truly superb. You really must spend to get the best out of an external monitor or there isn't a lot of point unless you go for an IPS screen or size over quality.

I have my laptop connected to 1080p projector and it looks fantastic. 1080p blu-rays with good mastering often look better than the quality of the projection when I watched the same movie in the cinema. At 720p, even upscaled, it is never going to look as good. -
Oh sorry I didn't mean upscaled..I meant pc at 720p on 1080p tv vs monitor.
Ps I had the older Samsung monitor and it had wicked 3d conversion..but my new LG is even better now after update shows full 1080p with its passive tech.and the 3d conversion is mind blowing..it like 80 percent 3d vs the common meh hardly notice conversions..tv is th 47lm6200
Edit. Yea 3d is not as exciting for me anymore..excitement only lasted 2 weeks..now its just sorta neat but could care less -
720p upscaled on a HDTV looks so much better than 720p upscaled on a laptop screen (this is why console games can still look great even though almost none of them run at 1080p)
If you're looking for a performance compromise, using a TV is the way to go. On a HDTV I would take 60fps at 720p over 30fps at 1080p any day.
But when using a laptop screen, I would hate to run anything lower than native so I would probably take the 30fps at 1080p.
A good TV can hide a lot of sins
