hi all - i have a question concerning my new laptop and being able to play bf2. I HAD until about a month ago an alienware area-51 with 2 gigs ram, vista, go 7600, fast hard drive... yet when i installed the game - it ran just fine. but then when i tried to play it on multiplayer - i would click to logon to the servers and it would just crash i called EA and they just told me the typical this game is not supported with vista in mind and to just wait for a patch or something.
well the alienware malfunctioned and i demanded a refund in which i got. so i shopped around and found the hp pavillion 9500 customized laptop. it has a T7500 2.2 ghz intel core 2 duo processor, 2 gigs of ram, geforce 8600M GS video card, 120 gb 7400 rpm hd, windows vista home premium.
can anyone, with a very good certainty be able to tell me if i will be able to play this game on my system? i have no idea what was up with not being able to join multiplayer games - and the only explanation they could give me is that not all systems with vista.laptops will play the game although some will. luckily i was able to return the game at walmart, but i know i will not have that luck again. i just want to make sure this game will run fine on multiplayer so if i buy it i wont be throwing away my money.
can i play my laptop with this game on multiplayer? is gamespy stopping me from being able to do so since it does not support vista as of yet i heard? someone please help me so i can go out tomarrow and buy this game if i can play it online. THANKS![]()

I think the problem could have been solved without having to return the laptop...
1. Use the latest video card drivers.
2. Install BF2
3. Patch BF2 with the latest full patch.
4. Update Punkbuster manually using PBsetup
reboot, try playing.
It is almost guaranteed to make BF2 work. -
looks like punk buster problem. i have to get a punk buster solved because of high pings... ㅜ.ㅜ

I know your problem, many people had this as well with Vista. All you have to do is click on your desktop icon of BF2 and in one of the tabs it allows you to "run in adminstration mode" or something like that, click it on and hit ok. When you start up your BF2 you should be good to go!

the laptop was returned because of a different issue, i didn't know what was slowing down my alienware until i talked to an alien tech who had me install something to keep track of my cpu temp - and it reached a staggering 79 degrees celcius. he told me that i must send the laptop back in because it is defected. which sucked because i waited for a month to have them build it. so thus i requested my money back - it had nothign to do with this game, just the heat.
anyways, punkbuster would have made me unable to logon to multiplayer? i remember that as soon as i clicked logon to servers, it would go to that loading screen and just freeze (in which i would have to run task manager and end the program) -- i want to make sure i can play this game before i run to the store and spend the money. -

can someone tell me if i have a good chance, if not a 100% chance, of having bf2 work on my laptop? i want to go buy it now but im still shaky on throwing away 30 bucks if the game will not log onto multiplayer server. thanks.

Don't you already have the game?
Anyways, yes, it should work just fine. -

The game is 20 dollars, and I'm almost positive you can get it to work. Read what others have posted about how to fix it.
-
the game is 30, and i guess i'll just have to buy it and try it. can someone just tell me that this game WILL work on a laptop with vista online? thanks.

I have the game installed on my Asus G1 w/ Vista and it plays fine.

BF2 still has a large number of servers (the expansions and boosters are kinda weak though). Personally, I like 2142 better (titan mode is awesome) because load times are significantly less (2 min vs 8 min). Plus gameplay is crisper, more fluid. Only downside to 2142 is ugly terrain, but I guess you cant expect much during an Ice Age

oh i just remembered, im behind a router - do i have to open ports or something? i remember having to open all these ports and could never find what ports to open and how many there were---- has anyone played this game behind a router?
-
I think most people probably play games behind routers, and no you shouldn't have to open ports. I've never had to open a port for any game I've played.
