Yeah so for an mmo i play, i just leave my laptop on the entire night while my character just grinds the entire night, anyway, ive been doing this for 2-3 days without turning it off, any hazards to the laptop?

Unless the temps are spiking, its fine.
-
the cpu temps are around 60-62 (Undervolted already)
Would that be ok?
Cant tell u gpu temps cause ati doesnt have a temp sensor built in :X -
should be fine i used to do the same thing before on 2moons.
-
Shouldn't be a problem. One of my laptops has been running since monday.

nah nothing gets wrong with it.
however, i leave mine on for about 3 days straight and i notice it gets somewhat slower. like multitasking wise even though i have 4 gb ram.
that might be a problem, and does anyone have a solution for this? thx -
cheater!!!!
-
I constantly leave my laptop on for 10+ days at a time, so far no problem.
One thing I do tho is put it on powersaver mode while away/sleeping. -

Skill grinding gets sooooooo boring so i just leave it on all night just attacking the event monster -
It will be fine, I do that all the time.
Just keep an eye out on the GPU temperatures, but temps in the 60's is perfectly normal. -
I wont know if its true, i dont believe it, but i had a friend who put the laptop sitting on a paper towel.
God knows how, but apparently the paper towel caught on fire.
Seems very unlikely unless it was severely faulty. -

i have acer 8920 n have been keeping it on for 2 weeks without shutting down (i restarted it sometimes) to save my time downloading files. No problem had been occurred.
-
I used to have a similar problem playing MMO's over long periods of time w/o rebooting. Possibly a memory leak in the game or background application is the reason for slowdown. Easy solution: Log out and reboot every day or two. It's not that long out of game.

Yes you can run 24 but build custom or buy a good cooling solution to save some lifetime on the notebook.
If you alt-tab or minimize the game it won't render graphic, won't heat up gpu that way. -
Isn't it against most game EULA's to use bots of any kind.......... what game may I ask are you doing this in -
Leaving your laptop on all night to bot won't harm it.
I do get that Cabal's grinding gets boring, but really if you're going to bot why do you bother playing at all? -
Being an MMO developer myself (and having been a player in the past), I take a bit of (mild) offense from this post. You are effectively spoiling other people's enjoyment of the game by boosting your power without any effort expended whilst others grind fairly for their gain.
Now I do agree that more should be done by developers to tackle the problem (i.e. making the game less of a boring easily automated grind would be a start), but still... whats the point? You haven't achieved anything other than false bragging rights.
But meh... it's not our MMO, so never mind -
If the game is that boring that you have to leave your computer online overnight to grind for you, maybe it's time to look for a more fun game? :x -
Also, with my previous laptop I would leave it on constantly. Well now I seriously have about 5 minutes of battery life. I'm not sure if that has to do with leaving it on all the time. -
There is an event monster that takes nearly no dmg, so i just leave my char using skills on it for a while and i go do other things or sleep
cabal online.
and @ mephs, its not only me but hundreds of other players doing it.
There is a reason they put this event up, gaining skill levels in cabal takes an insane amount of time, this is something you just attack to gain exp. -
Well, I'm not really one for gratuitously spamming links to our stuff, but seeing as you asked:
http://www.footballsuperstars.com
It's a football (or soccer for any Americans) MMO. So for those who enjoy football games at least, it should have a rather interesting grind mechanic (games of football!).
Whilst it does have it's potential weak points occasionally with Goalkeeper AI, I think it would be pretty difficult to actually make any kind of bot that was really worth using, and besides, you definitely would miss out on the fun if you did.
Still... I'd never say never, so who knows, maybe someone will work out a way eventually. -
mephs, you obviously dont know what you're talking about, if the game developers put this event in themselves, then obviously people are going to take advantage of it.
Here is an example:
Not my char btw, this was taken by a friend.
People are just afk skilling off that monster, there is an auto attack system where you dont have to keep pushing the hotkeys over and over, the game does it for you.
Anyway its pretty obvious this thread went the wrong way -
I'm not here to flame or be flamed Shinakuma9, I've stated my opinion, like it or not, but I most definitely do know what I am talking about...
-
Either way, it wasn't the point of this thread. -
Well fine, think what you like, but I really can't see how it can be a legitimate tactic. Why would a developer ever put something into a game to cut out the boring grind like that on purpose.... do they really believe their game is so terrible that such a device is necessary?
It sounds much more likely to me that it is something that is broken that the developers cannot be bothered or do not have time to fix for whatever reason. Either way, the whole thing strikes me as pointless lunacy. -
No, actually the game is great, except most of the players just hate the grinding.
If the developer puts something into the game that would make it easier for people for a short amount of time like a week or so, don't you think everyone would take advantage of it to the fullest extent?
I know i am by doing this, but if you believe its illegitimate, go ahead.
Not to sound hostile or anything, but if you have played the game yourself for a while, you yourself would see how annoying the grind is later on
They had a 4x exp event last month for about a week, would you call that illegitimate too?
well anyway im done arguing over something as irrelevant as this ><
no hard feelings mephs. -
I hope not OP, I rarely turn off my laptop, sometimes it goes to sleep but only restarts when its been weeks of straight use!
leaving your laptop on consistently :O
