Should be able to play on medium settings just fine.

2GB of RAM should be enough. I played L4D on medium settings on my M1530, though it does have a T8100 and I played in on 1280x800 native...

I played L4D on my system, with most settings set to high, shaders to medium and 2xAA. L4D is quite CPU intensive though, so you would want to turn on multicore rendering. I achieved about 50 - 100 fps with these settings.

L4D2 is a totally different story though. Somehow I'm only able to achieve about 30 - 40 fps.

4 GB won't make any serious performance change.

just set everything to medium and enjoy the game!
