i loved oblivion for its open environments and the feeling of accompleshment when you finish quests. i'm going to best buy today and i was wondering what other games there are that are similer to oblivion, all i can think of is gothic 3 which based on reading reviews i'm not sure if i want to get... are there any other somewhat modern games out there that i should consider?

    Neverwinter Nights 2?

If you're willing to try older games, Balder's Gate II and its expansion are neat.

If you love the epic feel of long quests with convoluted storylines, try some of Squaresoft's RPGs, such as the final fantasy series.

I actually really like Gothic 3. It's a lot harsher environment than Oblivion; definitely a lot less newbie-friendly, and some things about it are just infuriating. But overall I find it a lot more immersive than Oblivion. It just feels so much more like a real living world, where you can actually choose how to make an impact.

    Two worlds looks good,

Gothic 3 was OK (I played it), its much more immerse than Oblivion but I ran into so many bugs and every character I ran into just pissed me off (voice acting & character movement).

It's not modern, but if you haven't played Morrowind, I highly suggest you try it.

I would suggest a new game that came out, Overlord.

You play as a evil overlord who controls minions, and from there, you go across the land, doing tasks to make yourself either a "good evil" overlord, or a "evil evil" overlord. As you get more corrupt, it begins to show on your suit, and also in your Tower (its just called the Tower in the game, but you can call it whatever you want; domain, Tower of Darkness, etc.) But the fun part is controlling minions and casting spells. You get to control little minions (tiny demon dudes) and as you progress, they can pick up weapons that are dropped by enemies, or you can make them collect items for you instead of walking to them, etc.

It is a very big open environment, with a certain number of set quests, but walking around and exploring is a fun thing to do, as you can loot houses, burn things, and all that fun stuff.

Thief games.. esp the new ones sound really cool and act like oblivion alot.

Supposedly similar to how you played when you were apart of the dark order (forget the name of it been along time since I have played oblivion) and that was my fav part of the game, infact I wish the whole game was just that and alot of it.

I am playing overlord also and I love it.

Its not really anything like oblivion. It is fantasy though. I cant think of what its like really I guess its a simple 3rd person action game really.

Not really in the scale of oblvion at all and I believe you can beat it all in about 10 hours.
But it is way cool I must say. Humourous fantasy.

As far as oblivion I have a game called gothic 3. I didnt really get much past the beginning it bored me but it is acclaimed.

Oh I beat dark messiah of might and magic before I played oblivion actually and I enjoyed that a lot.

It is certainly more like the thief games, that one. Definitely has fps aspect and sneaking up on groups and picking them off one at a time. Its very good though I think i recomend that over gothic 3, although gothic three is probably closer to oblivion

Morrowind. It's much better than that excuse for an RPG called Oblivion. It doesn't looks as good, but the mods out there for it increase its beauty 10 fold.

Has anybody said Assassins Creed yet?

That game looks great, not out yet but keep your eyes peeled. Its totally opened ended like oblivion, again much like your assassin missions but its the whole game!

I think I will like this one alot.
