I get max FPS in wow with vista business, granted Im on a 8600gt. But being as though I got the same maxed FPS on my old 128mb x1600 2 years ago and that card is not as good as yours. Personally Id reformat and reinstall the OS. Doing an overwrite of software never performs right.

no I did not use the install option, I used the upgrade which keeps all my existing software on, nothing should have been changed apart from business extras. so it was weird

That's not how it works. It doesn't just "Add the Business Features". It over-writes all existing OS files with the Business ones. This can cause A LOT of software compatability issues.

I, like said above, recommend a clean install.

I would reinstall the OS with your new Vista Business. (May have to obtain a CD, not for sure) You may want to try just reinstalling you GPU driver, and reinstalling the games. That may fix it, and would be easier than reinstalling the OS.

Don't forget that upgrading to another version of vista means you may need all of the updates again. Check them, I've used the Upgrade facility to fix a couple of computers that were failing to get updates, this fixed the and meant that I needed to get all of the updates again, including SP1.

OFC you did lose performance, because Vista business has more bloatware than basic. Besides as other guys said, do you have all updates installed?

Brainer, By bloatware I assume you are talking about Vista Aero. As business doesn't have much more than basic really. A few extra's aimed at businesses but not a lot else. If you want the Games (Solitare etc, ) you need to add them to Business through Add/Remove programs.

It was acturally downclocked for some reason, it wasnt going into the performance 3d setup, I had to reinstall the OS to get my gaming back. It is right now on a one year old dell stock driver and I got my 40fps back. trying the forceware later today. thanks for the help guys

What features made you choose Buisness over Premium?

    I'm just curious.

Well aero is hefty in of itself, but business opens up alot of networking services that arent on home, these also tax your system more. But personally think a clean vista business install and new drivers will fix the issue. Every time I do an overwrite install (sometimes to recover a system that crashed) it never runs right, rather just enough to recover the files I need.

the answer is simple, I can get a genuine copy of vista business for free lol, my university provides only business rather that premium, and anything is better than basic I had assumed
