So I downloaded the demo and it lags on my laptop. On the performance test I was getting around 20 fps on normal settings. Please tell me the demo is just not optimized for midrange pcs....

Yes, this game is a terrible port from the Xbox. It's not worth playing PCs for that reason - save your money.
-
good to know. I need to find a good hour to play and install farcry2...
any demos you guys recomend i download from steam that will show me how my system is supposed to play? -
There's the Bioshock demo, if you haven't played that. My old 8600m dealt with it pretty well @ 1280x800.
What's your screen res? You should replace a line in your sig with this info
-
I can play the game on my 8660 with all high setting but have to put medium in shadow quality and no AA. It plays smooth like butter. And at 1680x1050

lol i downloaded this demo only a couple days ago and even I had problems with!! this game seems very CPU dependent even though it only came up once it said please turn your settings down or something when i put everything maxed out this game was only getting like 25FPS i was like what the hell?
-
Well the game isn't completely hopeless, on the benchmark I get 61.2fps snow, 84.7fps cave on my CF setup in all max settings possible, 1920x1080. But yea, I played this game when I used to have an 8700mGT, it never did run that great, but it was playable on mixed settings about 25fps avg. 1280x800.
-
1680x1050, all high, no AA/4xAF, I'm averaging 40fps in the second demo level.
-
your setup is worse than mine...
-
He has a 9800m GT! And a better processor
As Chaz said avoid this game on the pc. Maybe buy it for the xbox\ps etc. if you really want to play it.
Try the crysis or tomb raider underworld demo's -

the snow seems to take out the CPU i think this is the problem with this game they didnt optimize the parts with the snow well, when it stops the FPS soars Devil May Cry 4 I heard is also not optimized so great.
-
DMC4 is one of the most optimized games I've ever played on the PC. You definitely heard wrong there.
-
the snow does the same thing to crysis i hear. Will the rain do the same to me in far cry2?

really? Well i guess im wrong i remmeber seeing people who had a 9700 gts that couldnt run this game on full -
really, the mt framework engine was designed for xbox, and game developers in capcom did a small job with lost planet to get into the pc. It seems like every game which has the feature of dx10 gets shouted out in the media, but if you want your gpu to take full advantage of dx10, then the whole game has to be build upon dx10, no way that dx10 is better on lost planet than dx9, they just add some shadows. shader model 4.0 has not been seen in anything except for 3dmark advantage, its so sad that they dont think before they add features like dx10 into games these days. cheers lads

I'm using an HD2600 (3DMark06 is around 3300) and I can run the game at:
1280x800
No AA
All settings high
The only time the frame rate drops is occasionally when I play LDK mode (tons of enemies on the screen) or very rarely during the forest stages. There were also a number of people who could easily run the game with an 8600 GT. I think there were even a couple that played DMC4 on an 8400 GS. -
his 9800 has not come yet
-
Yeah, have to disagree here as well... Devil May Cry 4 runs suprisingly well on my tablet with the 3200HD IGP.... runs at 1280x800 and looks great.... very optimized port in my opinion.
And on topic, my X205 ran Lost demo totally fine, don't remember the details, but didn't have any slowdowns or problems. Would have bought it but I beat it on the 360.... fun game! -
The 9800 that's "coming soon" is the T9800, the latest and greatest mobile Core 2 Duo processor. My 9800M GT is already in full effect.
-
I could run Devil May Cry 4 on high settings but Lost planet just runs bad even on low settings, Lost planet is just coded bad just like grand theft auto is.
-
Hmm no trouble playing Lost Planet here on my laptop DX10 1920x1200 all maxed out. fun game, reminds a little of Gears of War though not the tactical aspect of it.
Hmm little off topic anyone playing Gears of War here, still playing I have to say. I can´t let this game go, I play it over and over again
-
I didn't have a half decent notebook when GeOW came out on PC, so I'm guilty of not having played it yet. I'm definitely picking it up soon though.
I've been playing this Lost Planet demo, and I hate that forced constraint of having your energy constantly depleting. It makes no sense to me, and it'd be a lot more fun without it. -
Actually the energy depleting is because it´s so cold in Lost Planet
Also it forces you to react more quickly. I have never died of it. You always find new energy when you kill enemies
-
you never played on hard.
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
No FC2 is very well optimized and the rain never causes a glitch for me. Fire and/or explosions may slow you down a bit though depending on your settings. -
Farcry 2 has no glitches or whatsover, perfect code, and as of Lost planet, its gets insane on hard..
-
Actually you are right. I only played it through on Normal. Will give hard a try.
-
i think it may be just demos on steam are not as optimized as the game itself. Farcry2 runs great and so does LEft4dead
lost planet demo poorly optimized?
