I have a decent laptop that can play most of the games out there without any problems. My native resolution is 1920x1080.

Whenever I lower the resolution to something like 1600x1200, my fps will go up but the graphics look really dull and sometimes dark. It doesn't look as sharp as setting the resolution to 1920x1080.

My old laptop does is the same thing. It has a native resolution of 1280x720. Anything lower will give me dull graphics when it comes to playing games.

Does you guys experience the same thing?

    Thanks.

Could you please post the brand, model number and specs of your laptop so that we can tell if it's just the laptop or a general issue?

You need to change to a resolution that is a scale of 1920x1080. 1600x1200 is a lower horizontal resolution, but a higher vertical resolution, everything would look stretched and odd...

Try 1600 by 900 it should look better than 1600 by 1200 as your screen is 16:9.

Check your fps. If you are get below 30 you will feel a lag, i dont think so you'll be able to max out those games as you 460m is handicapped ( bestbuy model )

Even if you keep the same aspect ratio i find that most notebook panels look like crap at anything but native.. They just don't downscale well..
My current g73, anything except fullhd, looks terrible
My old Toshiba x205, anything but 1440*900 looked terrible
I think it's just the way these panels are made..

I find that there is one alternate lower resolution that scales well. Usually on 1080p, 720p looks good too and can usually afford to use 4xAA even at that lower res and get decent frame rates. While my laptop was out for service I was stuck with a Core 2 Quad and HD 4670 GPU for a couple weeks. I ran at 1280x800 (have 1920x1200 16:10 24" external monitor), and it looked good and ran well.

agree with htwingnut, some displays can work with one lower res, however most of them dont. And the games indeed look like crap

Same here, I always use my native res. for my games because ever since year 2001 I experience this :)) It looks pixelated haha.

I dont have any issues with my screen on any resolution lower than 1920x1200 until I reach 1024x768 then it just looks horrendous.

I know why your lagging. I also have the same exact model. Bestbuy screwed us over with a 128-bit memory bus vs 192-bit on the other models with the 460. Overclock it up a good amount and youll see a good increase in performance. On stock it produces 40 GB/s which is unacceptable but i got mine up to 50 so it performs decently. I used these clocks:

Oh, the gimped GTX 460m disorder.

Sucks Best Buy [and ASUS for that matter], did not do a better job differentiating from the real G73SW and the BB G73SW
