It really just depends on the video card, the processor, and the price.

What are you looking at, a MBP 8600M GT GDDR2/3?

    What are the Acers specs?

    - I don't know much about Mac's :)

MacBooks are not great for gaming.

MacBook Pro's on the other hand, will function well as mid-range gaming rigs.

Macbook Pros have an 8600m GT (DDR3), so they're pretty good. I use mine to play games a lot. Macbook on the other hand has a horrible integrated card not fit for gaming. Install Windows on a MBP and it will be a fine gaming machine. Not the best, mind you, but it'll play anything medium-high.

Also keep in mind that not ALL games are Mac Compatible. So you'd still have to run Windows to play most games.

Unless you're considering a MBP and don't mind picking up a copy of Windows, don't even bother with Apple if you're going to game.

Agreed ^ you will have to pay what is it, over 2k? and then get a copy of windows... Or you could pay probably have that price for the same exact specs in a PC

ok it seems that mac isnt that great. Ill probably get the acer. i just dont want to think that ive made the wrong choice, PCs can have more problems than macs so im really in two minds.

I'd have to disagree, my system has done everything I've asked of it with no issues at all (WoW, CSS , Emulators, etc) - I actually prefer it to all of the PC's I've used in the past, including my other notebook. The question you've gotta ask yourself is can you justify the extra cost of using OSX or an inch thin notebook, plus Windows - if not then just go with the PC.

If I was going to drop 2k on a notebook, I'd go for the NP8660.

Macs are good PC's, but not for gaming. They don't have the newest CPU's, GPU's, or RAM, and they are expensive. I would stray from a Mac too, unless you run bootcamp and have windows running since not many games are for Mac.

And then there would be not much point in buying a Mac, imo.

Exactly, as I already posted if you have no need for OSX or the form of the actual computer then you don't need an Apple, period.

    thank you , I hate Mac's too! :D

They are the hardware equivalent (gaming is all about hardware) of an M1530, which costs $1000.00USD less, and is therefore a smarter choice.

If you wanted to spend $2000 you could do, so, much, better (gaming-wise). From the Toshiba's, to Gateway, all the way up to the Clevo's @ $2000.

How about getting a MacBook, and building a desktop for $700?

I don't hate Mac's. I just can't justify the high price tag for the specs.

would an imac with 24.ghz dual core, 1gb ram and an ATI radeon hd 2400 xt 128mb card be good for gaming even if its not the best games. games like the new total war coming out- empire? and previous total war games

QFT. When I was on the hunt for a new notebook it was between the M1530 and top-of-the-line MBP. The price difference was what led me to the XPS. But I sure wish it had the illuminated keyboard. :(

The 2400 xt is a low-end graphics card, even for a desktop. And if you're going to go for a desktop that you want to game on, for the same $1600 that you'll spend on an iMac, you can build your own quad-core, sli 8800 GT computer.

    Also: What's your budget?

All I have to say about Macs is just go down to an Apple Store and feel them out for yourself.

Oh and the $1k Dell, what price tag would you put on a plastic, no-taste design, poor build quality machine? It would be insulting to go over $1k.

For the price of a macbook pro (or close to it), you could get a decent pc gaming rig and a low end macbook or imac for your love of osX

well actually i like the design of the dell, the macs design is really nice, i agree, but comparing to my laptop, there is no way i could justify an extra 1500 dollars, expecially not on build quality. if i was spending 2k on a laptop i'd go for the np8660, sagers have fantastic build quality and the specs pwn the mac.

personally, if you like the mac interface, have the money, and arent gonna game, get a mac, they are nice, light, and pretty, but if you are gonna game get a pc, more bang for your buck.
