just wondering if you can max out bf3 on a notebook and at what specs? tia.

A dual 5870 setup or 580 setup can max it.
A single 5870 or 580 can probably max it or near max it. Definitly can do high and it looks the same to me.
Get a i7 CPU, and atleast 4GB RAM. -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Spec in sig.
Ultra/1080p/post AA to high/HBAO/16xAf.
Gpu at 720/1700.
In doing 45fps average outside (damavand peak/caspian border) and 68-70 in closed sections (metro underground).
Never dips below 36fps.
So I guess that a dual gpu setup can at least kick in 2xmsaa along with my settings having 60fps everywhere. -
Why would you ever want to play multiplayer on the highest graphic preset?
I mean it will surely look pretty but it will also make it harder to play competitive.
But only a dual GPU notebook would run BF3 at the highest preset and it still wont have enought juice to keep it all up at 60fps. -
Well it depends on the res. I doubt any notebook can do it with everything maxed at 1080p at 60fps. Everything maxed except AA deferred would be a more reasonable goal imo.
-
I believe maxing BF3 is not practically possible w/ a laptop, (max AA, ultra settings, 160502392p Resolution)
R3d has the gist of it, it is not possible to achieve stable frame rates on completely otherworldly settings on a laptop! -
You guys don't seem to give laptops enough credit, 60 fps constant is something that even desktops can't do perfectly. There's always little dips but they aren't noticeable, a dual high end gpu set up with laptops can easily achieve great frame rates maxed out Battlefield 3. Maxing out settings for multiplayer I think is a nice feature and whenever I can I do.
-
actually, i dont play bf3 myself and it was just a theoretical question based on my discussion with this guy in another forum. i mentioned that no laptop in existence could truly max out bf3 even on newer drivers, but he said that even a single 580m or 6990m could come close to maxing it out and a dual 460m and above could surely max it out.
i kinda was skeptical about this claim, so i thought id post it here
-
Well, he was sure right. As for a silky smooth 60+ constant on ALL max? Maybe not.

depends on what you mean by max. graphics cards can do MSAA using super high quality algorithms that improve quality very slightly at great performance cost. 16x HQ MSAA and you drop frame rate by an order of magnitude or so.
-
max, as in maxxing out all the settings to their highest possible values in 1080p while maintaining an ave of 60fps
-
Yup, not possible on a laptop. Of course it would take a higher end desktop build to do any better, but still, only a desktop could do it. A 2500k and a pair of $200 graphics cards would fare much better than any laptop is capable of, and desktops can get a whole lot more powerful than that.
-
What do you consider a $200 dollar graphic card be? I'm running bf3 on ultra at 1080p, HBAO, 4XAA, 16XAF, and get around 51-65fps. Sometime dip down to 46fps. My gpu clock at 800/1100.
-
Ones that cost $200 or less, like the GeForce GTX 560, or Radeon HD 6870. Each one is substantially more powerful than the top end mobile cards, the GTX 580M and HD 6990M.
Well even with a 12%/22% overclock on your graphics cards you are getting close, but not really there. Would you be able to try out every setting maxed out and report the results?
The next generation of mobile cards due soon won't have any trouble though. The HD 7970M is pretty much a desktop HD 6990 with only slightly lower clocks. -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Might want to rephrase that. -
Yeah, oops. I meant desktop HD 6970, not HD 6990.
-
I'm playing with Mesh on Ultra, Rest on High, Shadows on Medium. No AA+AF. AO = SSAO.
Getting between 45-100 fps. +100 fps when flying jets. 35-45 FPS on B2K Maps @ 1920x1080. I wish I had some extra power to get +60 fps on B2K maps. -
Before my 6990m, I had the 6970m and with all settings on ultra, hbao on, 2xaa, Max af, 1080p and of at 825/1100 I was getting 30-45 fps. 30 fps is playable for any game.

My rig below can do it , all ultra setting. but I'd suggest getting 580m Sli is much better then 6990m Crossfire.
-
Mine too. All ULTRA...
-
are these the highest settings in bf3? it can only go as high as 2xaa?
-
According to notebookcheck.net, no single mobile gpu can max bf3 with above 30 fps.
Only dual 580m, dual 6990m, dual 485m, and dual 6970m are able to play bf3 1080p ultra preset setting and get above 30 fps. -
No, it goes to at least 4x aa (haven't check/tried any further).
