If I buy the game and install it on my laptop would I have to have the cd in the laptop whenever I want to play it?

Yea, I think so. Steam may have the game though (not sure), in that case, you wouldn't need to have the CD in everytime, just Steam running.

Besides steam, there are no-cd "patches" available for most games. Just google: no-cd; medieval; 2.

I'm using M2TW on my laptop without the cd using this method.

Note, there are downsides to this. For example, you must get a no-cd patch for whatever version you are running. Like if you're playing ver 1.2 and later patch it to 1.3, (or whatever) then you must find the version 1.3 no-cd patch.

The upside is that boxed copies of games are almost always cheaper than ones bought from steam---If you know where to look.

Sure the dvd must be on drive...or use a crack...considering you've bought the game you have the legal right to use it...
