I was wondering what people would consider the minimum requirements to play World of Warcraft smoothly. This comp would be for my wife so it doesn't need to be anything crazy.

    Thanks.

Really depends. Almost anything will run WoW if you are just questing and a few BattleGrounds and some 5 man dungeons.

But if you do a 25 man dungeon, yeah you'll need a hefty computer. I was using a Core 2 Duo 2.2 ghz and a Nvidia Go7700 w/ 512MB and was getting around 20-25 FPS @ 1680*1050 with many of the features off or low. The only thing I kept high was texture.

I do know someone who plays WoW for arena on his Thinkpad, don't know the model but has a 12" screen. Wimpy laptop and he says it plays it fine.

I disagree with getting a i3 or i5, WoW will run much better on a higher clocked Core 2.

Hes looking for a decent notebook for his wife, and i think she will like to have better battery time and he said he doesent need anything with crazy specs. xD

And i think a lower clocked Intel Core i5 beats higher clocked Core 2 Duo chips.
    Runs cooler too.

Apparently WoW will run better on a higher clock dual core, so rschauby is right. And the recommended specs are not outdated. The framerate I posted was what I got in Ulduar 25, and I cleared that dungeon. Unless Blizzard changed the game drastically in ICC I doubt the info is outdated.

Probably something like ASUS N61JV-X2 $899, when not playing games or needing the discrete gpu, NVIDIA Optimus-Enabled: NVIDIA GeForce GT 325M with 1GB DDR3 VRAM + Intel GMA HD.

What about when the i5 uses turbo boost to disable hyperthreading and run at a higher clock?
And by outdated i mean that when they release the next expansion pack, Catalysm, they will use the Northrend graphics "engine" on the rest of the game, and i know my computer hates when i run around in snowstorms in Icecrown. :(

    Edit:
That ASUS looks like a sweet deal btw. :)

WoW has native support for Macs and I've even seen it run on Macbooks with Intel IGP's. Again, most machines do just fine on solo or small group play but if you plan on doing any semi-serious 25 man content be prepared to play at 5 fps on low end machines.

Heck, I've played WoW on a Asus 1000HE netbook , Atom 1.67ghz, 2gb ram, Win XP home. I will 'run' fairly well in the older sections like Ironforge (20-25fps), but stutters along at 1 or 2 fps in Dalaran. What is playable to me may not be another person's idea. Hard to go back to something that slow when you're used to playing WoW at a solid 60+ fps.
