Nvidia announced earlier that they are trying to make these 8800M's (not official name yet) within a 22w+ envelope.... making it possible for MXM-II to use it.

there are multiple models of this card planned.

If there are going to have a 22w-25w (for MXM-II) card its probably the lower version, as compared to the higher powered versions (for MXM-III, HE (IV))

I will not speculate too much, the reasonable way to see it is:
MXM-II - will have lower end
MXM-III, HE(IV) - will have the higher end versions

All of this is not confirmed, but in the works.

What kind of wattage is a 8600m GT?

I thought they were around 20watts.

If you can make an 8800 that close to a midrange envelope, what is the point of the midrange? You could just be putting 8800s in 15.4 inch laptops!

The 8800 will use that energy more efficiently since it will undergo a die shrink thus it sports similar envelopes to the 8600. LIke Gophn said this is all speculation though. Also most companies have these low, mid, and high ends also to give more variety sure but also for people who want the best they pay a premium for it because it is the best that is available. The 8800 should be plenty powerful since the 8700 isnt too shabby.

I wish I had the option of putting in a 8950M in my 5760 sometime in the future...although my cpu would probably be a bottle neck.

i see. i was just wondering because there has been much talk of whether or not the C90s would be able to support it since it has MXM II and many people where saying its going to be for MXM III. I did some research and found out that MXM II can support up to 25 watts, so if the 8800 takes a lil less than that, then it would fit into the C90s quite nicely. but gophn already answered that for me :D.

I personally believe the c90 will be able to upgrade to the 8800. Thats why I purchased it. :)
