Just gotta ask to be sure, but are you guys sure you downloaded the 64-bit Catalyst drivers?

The mobility modder works perfectly in Vista x64.

i just downloaded the 8.8 catalysts and used mobility modder to convert them.
Installed it and followed the instructions, however, in dxdiag, it still shows up as 7.1.x.x drivers
    ????

    Im using vista x64

Did you have that driver version installed before trying the 8.x versions? If so you might have to run a driver cleaner first to get all the old files out. Asides from that, did you check to see if your performance has improved? Could just be a little glitch.

    under dxdiag its 7.15
under catalyst control center it says 8.5 as well

That's perfectly normal: while you installed the catalyst 8.8, the different components of the package are not at at version 8.8. But if you want to be safe uninstall them and use driver sweeper to clean any remnant of the previous drivers and reinstall...

I would highly recommend the mobility modder.
My toshiba A300 came stock with catalyst driver 8.4. I tried to play flat out ultimate carnage and it would have under 25FPS on low graphics.
After i installed version 8.8 with the mobility modder my FPS was acceptable under high graphics settings

Also note, my vista base score increased to 5.1, previously limited by the RAM which was 5
The RAM speed increased to 5.4. I dont see a connection between catalyst drivers and DDR RAM but it did increase my score and FPS

Please don't wait around for OEM's to release new drivers, instead use mobility modder and get the most out of your notebook.

    enjoy
