I get to 93C in 3dmark05 with everything cranked to the max after about 15 minutes, although in most games I hover around 87-89C is there something going on here or should I just forget about it? Seems high to me.

9800m GS BTW I flashed it to the GTS BIOS, but the heat is the same from stock to the new one.

How long have you had the laptop

Maybe the vents/heatsink is clogged with dust
Have you tried cleaning it with compressed air

it worked for me, bringing my temps down from the 90s to the 60\70s
    :D

    Hope this helps

    It's an Asus, it's normal.

Has it always been like this?

Not always... especially in their G1 series.

G1 series has horrible cooling. I will vouch for that.

Usual max temps for that card on stock get as high as 85-86C, when not in use, they gt as low as 50 or so.

Since you flashed to GTS, it is normal to see such temps. I don't use GTS speeds, but a little less (580/800/1450) and I haven't reached 90C yet. Most I have seen is 89, and that was only one time.

93*C is warm without a doubt, but not unreasonable. I tested the G50V-A1 back in October and its 9700M GT reached 81*C under full load. The 9800M GS/GTS is a lot more powerful and assuming ASUS didn't change the cooling system, it sounds reasonable the temperature would go up.

If the thing fails, that's what the warranty is for. My HP's 9600M GT gets to 92*C all the time, haven't had any problems thus far and I have owned it for seven months.
