you could try to open it up and clean out the vents

also look in to undervolting the cpu and getting a cooling pad

the 8600m gt is what is overheating as they run ho and are known to fail over time. you are lucky enough that if i does you can swap out the graphics card for another compatible MXM II card for example the 9600m gt which does not have overheating issues

the gpu can also be undervolted although this is a tricky process which involves reflashing the vbios

My friend plays 720p on a Macbook Pro with a 9600M GT quite nicely. So that should give you an idea as the cards are similar.

Not to sound rude, but I'm getting tired of explaining that the 8600m GT does not have an overheating problem. The acknowledged problem with the 8600m GT is the tendency of it's solder to break when the card goes through relatively few thermal cycles. The 8600m GT does NOT run particularly hot (relative to most notebook GPUs). Also wildman, the 9600m GT does not pass the 5920g's whitelist and has proven so far to be an impossible upgrade.

I would undervolt your CPU and look for instructions on undervolting your 8600m GT as well. Or you could do what I did and upgrade your 5920g GPU from an 8600 to a 4650 mobility :D (check thread in my sig)

Oh it does run hot. My ASUS G1S-A1 had a 8600M GT that hit 106 Celsius playing COD4. Yes, I did clean it out regularly. And yes, it wasn't just my laptop that had that problem. Then they replaced the chip with a 9500M GS which .. is essentially the same core, but the temperatures are about 20 degrees lower.

In the future, please read the stickies before posting. They're there for a reason: **Can My Notebook Run It?** -Ask about your notebooks here

See the undervolting guide. If you have futher questions about this topic, feel free to create another thread in the appropriate forum. Since your original question was answered and should have been posted in the sticky, this thread is now closed.

    Thanks for understanding.
