    hey guys......

as ive been out of the gaming scene for the past 5 or so years im currently working my way through some of the classics ive missed out on.
currently that game is elderscrolls morrowind, and i have to say what an absolutely fantastic game this is.

i love the fact that it seems to act and feel more real life than other rpg's ive played in the past.
i mean if you steal in public you get caught, if you take an innocents life and others see you get reported, you can find items of any level at any time during the game, i just finished a quest where i ended up with this amazing sword, all because i was lost in the ocean and stumbled apon a old shrine.....then on the way to finish the quest found a dungeon which contained some amazing bracers, simply superb.
this makes for a very refreshing concept that becomes very enjoyable, and alot more importance is placed on ones actions.
Bethesda Softworks really seem to be setting the benchmark for rpg's previously i really liked games like baldarsgate and nwn and they still are good but i like how bethesda are taking the gender. :notworthy:
ive just ordered oblivion goty edition from amazon it should arrive on monday, the big question is is it as good as morrowind, and if so......can i hold of until completing morrowind first, ive got some hard choices ahead of me, with morrowind in the pc now, oblivion goty and company of heroes gold edition due on monday and fallout3 waiting for me when i get back to uni......im going to be a busy man.
ive clocked in alot of hours so far im on day 62 and i have only just delivered the note and package that was asked of me at the start of the game........so many side quests.........so many choices.........my gosh, this game is more complicated than real life.....
QUESTION: who enjoyed morrowind more than oblivion and why....or vias versa?.
any way id better shut up :chatterbox: just wanted to vioce my delight in this game.
    takecare all

oblivion...more streamlined, more detailed, better graphics (obviously), more interesting IMO

best out of besthesda's games (of the elder scrolls series and fallout 3 which i didn't like anywhere near as much as oblivion)

biggest gripe with besthesda? well they could be better at performance of their games...you know bug test more etc (i know open world games are going to have problems, but all their games at launch suck until months later when they get patched)...well that and nitpicks would be they could put in much better animation work so there detailed world actually still looks detailed when things move

Oblivion GOTY is great. I got it for 20€, an absolute bargain.

The coolest thing on Morrowind (which sadly is not present in Oblivion) was the ability to choose the voice of your character. The psicotic voice had me laughing for hours... "what?! nothing? I attack... and... NOTHING??!?!???"

    Priceless :D

But I agree that story-wise Oblivion is better than Morrowind. A lot more side quests too I think.

thanks for the responces guys, at another site i was told that morrowind was far better than oblivion and that made me start to doubt buying the game.....but i suppose it cost me $19.99 us for the goty edition which has both expansions so even if it isnt as good its still a bargin......
and i cant see it being bad.......you both have said how good it is.......is it as long as morrowind....taking in mind that i love doing side quests........havent even really started the main quest in morrowind to date and im day #63
    anyay thanks for the responses!
    takecare

yeah, im pretty sure outside of two or three main quest missions i spent my initial 40+ hours in Oblivion doing nothing pertaining to the main storyline, and I probably had only done like 10-20% of the side quests

look at the oblivion wiki online, if you dont do the main storyline to fast, there's a billion oblivion portals you can complete alone, ones that don't really pertain to the main quest/side quests...the game is enormous IMO and for a giant game its actually fun to play

Make sure than you install the OOO mod for oblivion before you even play it the first time. Without the mod the game is reallly boring.

you said that very eloquently, im dead keen to play this game now! lol

i actually really like side quests especially those like morrowind where you can be stumbling along half lost and then next thing you know you have 2 or so side missions to do, takes your mind away from being frustrated and often one ends you back on track also!

If you loved Morrowind then you should get expansion sets for it, Tribunal and Bloodmoon. Bloodmoon is kind of straightforward hunt where Tribunal will offer an intrigued storyline, new armor and weapons and another 10+ hours of fun.

Morrowind is without a shadow of a doubt the superior game.

Oblivion is all about randomly generated content and monsters that change with the players level. Interaction with NPC's is also very tedious where in morrowind you have 10+ conversation options which you can read/skip through at your leisure in oblivion you have 2-3 where you have to sit and listen to the same 3 voice actors ramble on throughout the entire game.

Where oblivion improves is that the gameplay is more fluid and you can get from one location to another with relative ease where as in morrowind if you don't choose your character race, class & birthsign cautiously traversing the vast wilderness' of morrowind could become a tiresome chore.
It was also a little annyoing that your attempts to hit someone in morrowind would randomly miss, depending on your skill level with the weapon, whereas in oblivion your skill determines the amount of damage you do with a weapon not your chance to hit with it.

And fallout 3 has the random content, boring conversations, slow travel and random misses, but is still pretty decent game.

what does that mod actually do for the game mate?

thanks for your input, im hoping to be honest that oblivion is different from morrowind, afterall morrowind is morrowind it is alot more ballsy from Bethesda that they try to take the gender in a different direction.
anyway, ive ordered it now so i hope that i get enjoyment out of it, and like it for what it is.......which is not morrowind, but its own game!

The mod takes away the level scaling.

In Oblivion, normally the entire world scales with your character's level. So if you're weak, all of the dungeons contain weak monsters and weak loot. Basically, there's no reason to go into a dungeon because you won't ever get anything but the basic sword until you level up. Also, it makes you feel like you're never getting anywhere when you level up because the monsters get stronger too.

    Oscuro's Oblivon Overhaul

    http://devnull.sweetdanger.com/OOO/OOO_Guide.html

takes away the scaling and adds some challenge. It basically makes the world like Morrowind's. It also adds gear and tweaks just about everything in the game for the better. I highly recommend you install it before you play for the first time.

It's definitely worth the 400mb download.

I love morrowind. If I could combine the lovely graphics of Oblivion with morrowind, and the combat system from oblivion i would be very happy indeed

I know there are plenty of mods for morrowind as well!
There are texture packs so you can have some pretty good graphics in Morrowind.
My personal favourite between the two was Morrowind because I could get so much more involved in the game than Oblivion. Actually I think I gotta go buy Morrowind again now... I just loved that game!
